So what does everyone think of the new Elite Series emcee???

Featured Replies

Hey all..

Watched the weigh in on Bassmaster.com last night....

The new emcee....is he someones brother in law?? Seems like he'd be a great guy to fish and have a brew with but....I thought it was Larry the Cable Guy at first.

What do you folks think about the Jerry McKinnis' new choice???

I think he is O.K., not real impressed and thought he'd be better but I think that a change was needed.

Thought he and G-man were going to start throwing on the stage last night   :o

Saw that...it was a TENSE moment. I agree it was time for a change but where did this dude come from?? I foresee a change...again!

I assume you are taking about Dave Mercer.

He has a fishing show up here in Canada called "Facts of Fishing".

He is known for his humor and antics while shooting his show.

I definately saw some freshman jitters during the 1st day Classic weigh-in; I'm hoping to see him relax and get back to his old form. He looks like he's been coached by his new bosses; He will make a great emcee if he gets back to the basics that always worked for him.

Well now I think I know what happened to Keith Allen...

The new guy swallowed 'em  ;D

Dang he's a 'big' guy!

Day 2 went much better for Mercer, imo.  A little touchy-feely, but much more comfortable.

KVD continues to be the fishin' machine.

I agree. Today was a little better for Mercer. I think he'll get better once he gets a couple more tournaments in. It seems like he's really having to search for things to say or ask and at times just seems at a loss for words. I'm sure that makes it hard on the angler's as well, not having the emcee leading the conversation very well.

Is it just me or does watching the weigh-in online seem 'lamer' than usual? It's either the mic's aren't picking up the fan noise or all the fans are asleep. Doesn't seem to be much energy in there for whatever reason. I'm sure it is, it's just not making it to the internet feed.

And for anybody that didn't know this beforehand....KVD is the man. I'd like to see Chapman get a full day to fish in his area because I think he could seriously put the pressure on KVD.

I heard Trip say at the presser that if they cancelled tomorrow for fog that they would fish Monday.

Go B.A.S.S. !!

Must be a poor mic set-up.  The camera would show the crowd cheering, but you couldn't hear anything.

i watched half of the weigh ins and turned it off because of how boring it was.

Well my first thought was that Dave is not the person for the job but I'll give him more time to settle down if he's like this by the 3rd tournament he needs to be given the boot.

In my opinion he'll get better once he's hung around the anglers enough to find out this and that about them and their personalities.

I think he should ask every one of the guys up there to 'tell us about your day' and just let them have at it, especially if he's having trouble keeping it going or is nervous or whatever. Let the angler's talk. Thats what the fans want to hear anyway.

After seeing Dave on Zona's show I expected a bit more "personality" from him. He showed more of it with Z but maybe he's been told to tone it down on stage.  Could also be that Z just brings out that side of people.

One thing that annoyed me a bit was when he announces an anglers weight he does it with about the same enthusiasm, whether it was 9 lbs or 16 lbs :-/

Something is certainly off with the A/V for the weigh-in.

I haven't been enjoying him these first couple of days.  I catch myself thinking of the questions I would have liked him to ask or things I thought he could have said that would have been more interesting.  Hopefully it'll get better for him.

Just my $0.02, but I was kinda put off by the volume (audio, not physical........) of the new guy.  I watched most of the weigh in on ESPN.com and was amazed at how loud that guy can yell!  I understand its a tense and exciting moment, but darn he was deafening when I had the sound up high enough to hear the fisherman.  I had to turn it down for him and up for the contestants......which got a little annoying.  I think he did a fine enough job as a host, just needs to tone down the screaming a little.....you can be intense without shouting all the time.

Sorry Nova....this guy is HORRIBLE!!!!  :P

Can we trade him for Bob Izumi???

I'm trying to like the guy and I realize that the Classic is not exactly the way to ease into it, but it's the final weigh in and he keeps jacking things up ! He seems more of a distraction than a compliment.

And if he continues to scream like that - his voice will be GONE well before the event is over.

Not very professional.

:-?

He is awful, but not as bad as Keith Allen. He needs to stop screaming.

We'll hear more about this after it appears of TV next week.

Voice is just about gone now.

LOL - he's terrible...

Nova...we'll trade you this guy and Keith Allen for Mariko Izumi!!!!!!  :D

I wasn't a big fan.  Especially the "G-G-G-G-Giant bass!" thing he kept trying to pull off.  I wasn't to impressed either with his interaction with Morizo Shimizu when Morizo was speaking in Japanese.

I think Mark Zona would be a much better MC.

i thought the guy was ***. He kept touching the other anglers and giving them massages on the neck. He needs to stop with all the touching stuff.
