When Bass Boats double as Ice Breakers...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Yea, you read the topic right. Simply put we had to break through 2-3 inches of Ice at the launch to get out and fish the main lake.  Friday the 15th, I backed my truck into the ice to help break it up for our trip out on the water Saturday the 16th. With that done we were able to have m friend get his Tracker out and break some more Ice up that allowed me to get my Nitro afloat to finish the job and break a way to the main lake. Air temp at the time of launch was 37°F warmed upto 48°F, water temperature stayed constant all day at 35.4°F. Here are some pics of us getting out on the water via my camera phone. We had a great day 3 of us went out I caught 4, and the friends caught 6 and 7 respectively. Whats that saying? Never give up!?!

You are nuts!!!  I love it!!!!!!!   :D

Nice job keeping at it! Slow plastics on jig heads still doing the trick for you? My regular spot has been icing over for a couple of weeks and the last time out I could only hit a few small spots of open water and had just a few bites in about three hours. One perch, one small pickerel and a couple of bites that I couldn't set a hook into but I was just happy to get bit.  Looks like I'm done until spring but I'll fish vicariously through you and your ice breaking buddies.

Well to be honest NHguy it was a football head jig rigged with a Gitzit. is what we got 90% of our fish on. I did get 1 on a football head jig rigged with a Kreature bait, all our bites were in 12ft-24ft of water. All using pretty light line, I was using flurocarbon. Surprisingly nothing was caught on blade type baits. If the water stays open much longer I may need to get my 2007 Fishing License.

Nice, real nice!!  You just gave me proof for my wife that there is someone that would do more than me to go fishing!  I'm still a close second but have to step aside and let you take the podium!!!!   ;D

Really glad you guys were rewarded for the effort!!

How's your trailer lights after backing in? I've damaged my fair share doing the same thing but usually for duck hunting.
