Chug Bug becoming  hard to find.

Featured Replies

The Chug bug is my favorite hard TW bait and it's becoming hard to find in local stores. I've never found it in walmarts but both Dick's sporting goods and Dunns sporting goods carried a nice selection of them early this year. Now Dicks only has the clear ones with two or three empty spots on the shelf for the other colors. It's been that way for over a month and Dunns is down to just a gold color with several empty shelf spots. This has gone on long enough that I'm worried Storm is stopping or slowing down production of them. I know BPS and TW both list them and stupid me forgot to order some from both of them even though I'm waiting on orders from both.

Anybody else having this issue?

The sportsman's warehouse  here did have a clearance sale on certain colors earlier this year so they may be discontinuing some colors but idk.

Seriously I am in the same boat. I was down to my last two and went to buy more for a tournament I had last weekend. I went to two dicks and two wal-marts NOTHIN!! I was so PO'd I went with skitter pops but actually hit up a friend the morning of and borrowed a couple of his. I ended up losing my two remaining chug bug's to a couple monster pike friggen things bit me off!! Im gonna have to order some up I never thought I would have to do it but I need my chug bug fix and two more tourneys to go till the end of my season! And after talking to one of the dudes at wall-marts they are not going to restock Im assuming dicks isn't either being they has really nothing in stock! I wonder if it has anythig to do with the economy.

Certain Walmarts nationwide are trying a test program where they are not carrying any fishing merchandise during the winter.  It should be back in the spring.

Well I just broke down and ordered $50 worth of them at TW to get free shipping. I hope they have enough in stock to cover my order. Even if they aren't being phased out I still got a great price ($4.79) on one of my favroit lures. Now how can I hide the fact I spent so much on fishing lures this week from the family ? ;D

I think it may just be a dicks thing also.  It seems like the one in Williston stocks the shelves in the spring just before fishing season and then just lets things run out and never restocks.  Each time I go in there is less stuff.  I asked a friend who works there, he didn't say that was the policy but he did say something along the lines of "fishing season is over" and this was in early August when I asked.  It probably is true that people buy most of their fishing equipment early in the season but c'mon some of us have a monkey.  Mine doesn't go away after the first weekend in May.

Same thing with the Dick's here in South Jersey. They are loaded up for hunting now, won't see a good tackle selection until mid to late March.

Plentiful down south at Wal/Marts or Academy  ;)

Stretch your chug bug supply by feeding um a few pop-r's too.

I've got some but I prefer the bigger profile of the chug bug when I want a popr type bait. I fish a frog allot but when I feel I need a bigger calling action on top I go to a Zara Spook or chug bug usually the chug bug.
