NJfishinGuy
i went out 2 weekends ago and couldn't find the bass anywhere but i did hook up with this big and new pb pick on a white bleedingbait spinner bait. he slammed it with one of those big sideswipe splashing hits like big musky and pike do. awesome to see it, he fought like all hell. anyway it was 24" long and weighed 4lbs on my spring, forgot the digital. Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 6, 2006 Super User Share Posted December 6, 2006 Toothy critters are great, right? So much fun. You cant really argue with any fish that will bite right now... Wayne
Cigarlover 1
Nice Pick. I love catching those things. You can almost always count on those to hit. I like to troll until I get to my spots at my local lake, almost always get a pickeral hit. Even the small ones are fun.

Guest avid
I used to have lots of fun with pickeral when I lived in NY. By the way they are delicous. The meat is white and sweet. Just be careful of the little bones. Oh my God, I just realized I'm a straight man for the mudster.
BucketmouthAngler13
Awsome pick! I havn't seen one that big in a while. My all time PB for pickerel is 25" that i cought with my dad years ago at Colliers Mills, but my PB for this summer was 21". I love catching pickerel. Who ever says they dont fight hard must not have cought and nice sized ones. IMHO a 3lb pick will fight harder than a 3lb bass. I know some good brushpiles in this area that are loaded with pickerel. Its fun to paddle up to them and pull out some toothy critters. Nice late season PB! Matt

craigaria
Sweet fish! We call em' jack fish around here. The biggest I have seen boated was a little over 6 pounds that my friend caught at lake varner about 7 years ago. My friend Chad caught this one at lake walton last spring. We didn't weigh it, but I figure it may have gone close to 5 lbs. It had a big ol' blugill stuck in its throat when it hit his spinnerbait. The Duke
Out of curiosity, what was the point of breaking the pike's jaw & teeth with the pliers and taking his dinner out of his throat (which certainly caused more internal damage)? I hope he lived to get another bluegill...
NJfishinGuy
yeah i gotto agree i dont like teeth eitherbut id never grabb and hold up a fish with pliers especially one 5lbs.
craigaria
He gutted it on the boat and ate it later... So unfortunately this pikeral never got to eat another blugill...
Tom Bass
Yeah, but he had a nice meal and didn't release a wounded fish.
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 11, 2006 Super User Share Posted December 11, 2006 haha, I gotta agree....if the fish is already dead, not cruel to hold it with the pliers for the sake of a pic.

bassnleo
Maybe a silly question, is a Pickeral the same as a Northern Pike? They kind of look similar.
NJfishinGuy
they are basically the same just more of them and they are smaller
