Tips on Throwing a Mattlures Baby Bass?

Featured Replies

I've probably put in 8 hours over the course of the summer with no takers.  I have to admit, I might give it about an hour at the most during one trip.  Sometimes for half an hour.  I've tried shallow water, letting it fall to the bottom in 15+ ft of water, slow reel, fast reel, deep banks, shallow banks.

I've seen baby bass in the size range so I think the size is ok to use still.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  Doing a couple trips this weekend.  Should be cloudy tomorrow am so thinking it might be a good time to use it.

You need to start putting in 8 hours with that bait over the course of a day.

When you are first starting out, it isnt a good idea to swimbait for a half hour here, half hour there. Pick 1 or 2 baits and throw them all trip every trip until you start getting fish.

I agree.

Overall, I would estimate one big bass every four hours.

That includes both "better days" and skunks!

My success has been fishing structure in deep, open water.

Anyone happen to have some links on techniques?

..... I'll set aside a day or two for swimbaitin' ..... that is kinda hard when you have poles and baits just screamin to be thrown, esp in the fall.  I've read that it is a different mindset.....I guess I have to adjust the brain patterns.

BTW, All I have is a the BB and a 9 in Black Slammer right now.  May try to get a Wake Jr for Christmas .....

It is always tough to learn a new bait/technique.  You find those precious hours of free/fishing time in a week and you want to catch fish so you end up reaching for your most comfortable/confident baits.  Not only are you learning a new technique but the bait is designed to attract bigger bass, and those far and few between even when fishing your go to bait.(at least for me)

hang in there, eventually it will pay off.

Welcome to swimbaiting!!!!!

Your next trip out leave everything but your swimbaits and swimbait gear at home.  That way it will force to you to throw swimbaits.  It takes a lot of time and dedication.  Good luck
