  1. Best .. Steez. Favorite .. Daiwa Pixy
  2. My kids use Zebco combos. They can handle a big one if they get lucky and I think there are some pink versions. The youngest caught a 4.5 lber when she was 5 with one .. Oh, and they only use artificials too .. usually a stick bait.
  3. Daiwa Steez on a Mattman Custom GLX Loomis .. it's pretty much a dream to fish with.
  4. Just a tip .. throw it by laydown wood and let it sink to the bottom and twitch it a few times. Repeat. It is a good cover bait and really good for this technique, this time o year.
  5. So .. that's the new Z?? I like it but man, that is some steep cabbage. I think I'd rather get the new Pixy which is a tad more reasonable and very sweeeet.
  6. I like the zoom shakey head worm .. i think it's 4 inches .. watermelon red flake or green pumpkin is mostly what I like to use. I also use the trick worm ..
  7. Plus .. you can get a split grip Loomis. I love mine made on a 783 GLX blank. Paired with my Steez, it is a dream to fish. I'll try to post a pic later ..
  8. No ribbon tail but it wiggles/shimmys on the way down. Love mine weightless + on shakey head. Green Pumpkin, Baby Bass.
  9. Might have been coincidence but I did catch my personal best 8 lber on a green/red flake rage tail lizard during the spawm. Caught a 6 lber this past weekend with the 10" anaconda. Both texas rig. Tis the season for big worms.... Both of those beat my best bass from 2008. Not saying I wouldn't have caught them with a different bait but I'm kind of a believer now ....
  10. These are fish catchers ... fo sho. Sometimes better than a regular senko when you aren't feeling impatient.
  11. Here is a tip: Go to Google Maps and locate ponds around your area(use map and satellite). Take a drive to potential locations to check them out. Private property is tough but sometimes you'll find a pond on a business property without - no fishing/tresspassing signs. I found quite a few that way ... Also check out parks and rec sites of close by towns. If they have a fishing pond, they'll have it listed. Then check it out with google maps again. Bass in your area has the potential to be large ...
  12. Is this the bait that the FLW guy was using on Ocochobee?(sp?) Looked pretty weedless with good action from the TV coverage. I love bass fishing in HD....awesome.
  13. We're in the low to mid 60s in NC. Spinnerbait, Jig, Worm .... that is all you need.
  14. I have the 50th Zillion, Pixy, 100M TDZ, Steez and even a Luna. Have some more saltwater Daiwas too. You really can't go wrong with any of them....I love all my reels. All are great casters, hardly ever get a birds nest unless I skip a bait or hit something unexpectedly. The Steez ... you could get lucky and find one gently used for around $300. That thing is just in a class of it's own. Incredible reel. Pixy is my funnest reel. Use it for all kinds of stuff and use it the most. I use it everywhere including pond hopping. For lightweight baits, this one is supreme. Steez, Z and Pixy are magnesium reels so really light. Zillion is a bit heavier than those but built like a tank. I'd recommend upgrading the drag on the Pixy or Z, if you get one of those. Zillion and Steez are good ta go.
  15. I have 12 YZ Ultrasoft on my Steez ... man, I love that reel. Don't have much gnarly cover around my parts. I suppose the reel can handle 15lb ... that set up would be the one for jigs. I think the one hinderance is if you want to go to a lightweight bait but the reel is so good, probably could handle that also.
  16. Book bag(i like the one strap kind) and bait boxes ... cheap and effective.
  17. My WalMarts have lame fishing sections so I stick with Bass Pro. Pond fishing equal weightless worms in my book...if your gear is suitable for weightless. Get you some zoom trick worms(even lizards) in green pumpkin or watermelon, they have kinami stick baits in some stores(which are senkos) so get you some o those, green pumpkin again(these are actually heavy without weight). Get you a spinnerbait or 2 too..... Good luck.
  18. Rained all weekend but did get there on Saturday. Too bad cuz I like to take the kids fishing out front. Got Paca craws+chunks. Rage Lizard. Few finesse jigs+swimming jigs. Few shakey head jig heads. + a kids tent for my kids. They were all out of the TT and Spro little swimbaits also were out of the sebile swimmers. I behaved for the most part. Been stocking up all winter so my tacklebox is overflowing at this point. Can't wait for a warming period so I can start tearing up my new baits. I need some room.
  19. I go to Bass Pro for everyday stuff such as hooks, worms, jigs since it is right down da skreet. But for the good tackle/higher end gear ... I hit TW.
  20. Alright....gonna get one of them at the BPS Classic this weekend. If you could pick one....which small "swimbait" do you like? + which color? Thanks
  21. Daiwa reels because they are great little fishing machines and I love all of the ones I have. I do have different models though. Rods, I have varying models and types because there just are so many great rods out there these days.
  22. Check out the fishing reports on http://www../bassfish/ lknbassman does excellent reports for Norman. Edit: Dog....person below is right, link don't work ..... google "bass fishing home page". It is the first result. You can sort by date so you can see what happened last year, with what.
  23. Nope, they don't work at all.....obviously from the pictures and articles. One thing...I can actually feel the tail vibrate thru my rod when using it. Haven't tried it at night but I sure will this year.
  24. Last year, you couldn't hardly find suitable hooks for bigger hollow bodies. This year....BPS has a whole section of weighted hooks. I went last week and couldn't believe all those new hooks.
  25. You'll get the hang of it in no time and baitcasters are great for controlling your baits. It will be time well spent.... You'll probably become an expert in un-doing birdnests too. I still get em once in a while. When this happens, just pull the line tight to see what line is hanging on your main line.....and pull on that one until you can release the main line again....keep going til you're done and the spool is back to a happy place. Good luck.
