river largemouth

Featured Replies

I caught this river largemouth a few weeks ago, around late September. A cold front hit the area but this fish was happy to take a topwater. My question for anyone is, which largemouth male or female has yellow eyes? Thanks

I might be mistaken and sound like a complete idiot saying this buy maybe that top fish is a spotted bass and not a largemouth bass.... Spots and largemouths look very similar but spots are usually smaller and have more deffinite patterns. Also the top fish seems to have a very small mouth for a largemouth bass....

It might be a spotted bass, the largemouth bass were pretty negative that day. This fish crushed my topwater, even though we had a cold front. Pic of spotted bass from Duane, Duane with his spot

Looks like a spot. Nice fish! What did you catch the first fish with?

I have caught LMB with brown, yellow and even reddish eyes.

Definatley looks like a spot compared to the pic of the largemouth. Did it chew up your thumb at all? Spots have teeth on there tongue and it is the easiest way of telling it from a largie.

thanks for the tip tin2win. I didnt look at the tongue before.  8-)

that fish in the first pic is definitely a spot, but you are right about the second pic, it is a true largie. ;)

Now, I've never caught a spotted bass before, so please don't hate on my (possible) ignorance  ;D...

But, that to me looks seriously like a smallmouth bass on the head...And then more largemouth/spot characteristics on the body. Do all spots look like that? Because I would have otherwise wondered if this was maybe one of the little mentioned "Mean Mouth" bass that have been talked about before?

Again, Never caught a spot, don't know if that's typical to have those facial markings.
