The fish I almost lost, at night.

Featured Replies

It was 11 p.m. and weather was about 50 degrees.  I was 40 mins. into my fishing, targeting tree stumps and drops offs.  I was throwing a brown jig with a zoom ultra vibe trailer in green pumpkin.  Hop, hop, and then a dink!  I quickly stoped hopping the jig trying too feel the tap tap.  I waited for about a sec and then "tap tap" (but not very hard taps) I reeled in the slack and slamed that rod back!  As I was reeling the bass in I thought to myself that it was small because there was hardly any fight, I was wrong!  Just as I was pulling it shore, not more than 2 feet from me that fish jumped out of the water and quickly took off.  I realized then I had a big one.  After about 5 mins of fighting I finally got it to the bank.  I quickly shined my light on it just see how big it was and it was BIG!  Just as I started to reach down the bass gave a couple more jerks and SNAP my line broke.  !@#$@$#@#!!!  but the bass was still laying there on and it was stuck in the dead grass, not even a foot from me.  So without thinking I quickly walked into the muddy bank and grab that fish with my two hands.  I will say it was the biggest fish I have caught so far, at leat 9 lbs.  I will post a pic ASAP.  After I put her back in the water I realized I was bleeding.  She really did a number on my lower thumb with those teeth, ouch!

P.s. 14 lbs test is not a strong as I thought.

Lets see that lunker!  8-)

Congrats on the PB

good choice with zoom ultra vibe trailer. HookMaster 8-)

I used a Eakins Jig in brown and a zoom ultra vibe in green pumpkin.  Its been killer for me and this is my first time fishing in the fall.  To be honest I've been only bass fish'n for about 2 years now.  I had caught an 8 pounder this summer with a culprit worm in brown color. Now that was a fight!  It took me around 10 mins. to get him to the bank.  I had some kids around me taking pictures next the fish.  They said they never seen a bass fish that big LOL.  Thats was a great moment.  I wish my wife felt the same way, she just rolled her eyes when I showed her the picture LOL.

why do people always pull this crap? nobody asked you how big you thought it was. if you don't think its as big as someone says it is, then don't say anything!

Phone camra + and low light = bad shot.  I'll remember to bring a digital cam next time.  I didn't have a scale so I could be a little off about the wheight none the less it was still a huge fish by far my biggest this year.

I fish on Robins AFB, they have 3 small lakes and the lake that produced that fish is called Duck Lake. Its a small lake and it holds some really good bass. A buddy of mine caught a 10 pounder and carries the pic in his wallet LOL.

wow incredible fish! great story too.....i been trying to catch a pickerel for a while and i finally got one on and while it was frantically thrashing at my feet once i had landed it, the hook came out, but he was stuck in the reeds at the waters edge...i did the same thing you did i dropped to my kneeds and grabbed that mofo w/ both hands. turned out to be a nice 16"er. oh yeah when i was holdint it by the gill plate it flopped and my thumb went in the mouth and it "did a number on my thumb" lol....two very similar stories!

awesome job man keep it up!

Very nice fish!  I guess it was more surprised then you were.  It's always nice to actually hold the fish in your hands.  When my friend and I fish, out of professional courtesy, we will say a fish is "caught" if it is next to the boat/bank.  Heck, it doesn't reeaaallly matter since we let the fish go anyway.  But, again, it's more fun when you actually get to hold 'em.

Nothing feels better than a new personal best! Congrats man! :)
