Lake Gaston again..new PB..pics

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just got back from the lake and man was it a good, cold time. Caught a new pb of 6.68 lbs on a jig this afternoon. Saturday my brother and I fished the main lake. We tried docks, and steep drops and I only came out with 2 and my brother with 1. The first one I caught was about 2.5-3 pounds and that was on a crankbait, my second was on a jig off a dock which was a dink. Today we stayed in our creek (Peahill) and got on a pattern by gettin up real shallow and throwin jigs into about 20+ ft of water and bouncing them up steep inclines. If it wasn't steep, they weren't there. I caught 7 today and my brother got 2 ALL on jigs. Yesterday and today it was cloudy, and very cold. Water temps under the 50 degree mark.

I also got to use my new carrot stick and all I can say is WOW. This is by far the lightest rod I've felt and it fishes extremely well.

The first picture is of the fish I caught on a crankbait Saturday, and the rest are from today.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

LBH, the North Face definetly keeps me warm  :)

Burley, the carrot stick is a 6'9 MH and I was throwing a 1/2 ounce jig on it (mainly cause I knew they were biting the jig, and who doesn't want to use a new rod?) but it held up extremely well. I just saw at Delo's that they now have 7 XHVY carrot sticks, which is what I'm getting next.

Hey Matt,

You all did great.

For some reason those bass like crankbaits on Gaston.

I have had good luck in the past with crankbaits.

Keep those pics coming.

And are you wearing your PFD?  I did not notice it in the pics.

Sam,

Yes we do wear are PFDs. We actually have the mustang inflateable ones so I usually just throw it off for the pics. Not to mention it's no fun handling a fish in the net for even a minute without getting that darn pull string stuck! I think it's like 20-30 dollars for a replacement cartrige too.

Great fish, congrats on the PB!  ;D

Geat fish, nice report and pics, too!
