I headed up to my honey hole in the dark on Saturday morning with my friends Joe, Hudson, and Shane.  We had beaten the number 3 football team in the state the night before and were extremely tired but in a great mood  ;D

We got to the lake at 6 and hauled our stuff down to the dock, quickly throwing it down and beginning to fish right away.  As ever, I was fishin a jig   and I quickly hooked up with a nice 4+ pounder, but due to my jammed thumb, I didn't lip it properly and it got off the hook and slipped out of my hand  >

We fished on undiscouraged, though, and remembered that there was a tournament due to start soon on the lake.  We hadn't entered because the entry fee was $300 and we couldn't afford it, but we decided we would try to show those guys a thing or two while we were out there.  They slowly started pullin up and walkin out onto the dock, saying goodmorning to us as we continued to fish.  By the time the lot of them had sat down in their boats, I was on my second cast with a Mattlure and got whacked!  The fish thrashed in the darkness near the dock and got the attention of the guys.  I lipped and weighed the 6.5 lber. and held it up for the tourney guys to admire, drawing a few oohs and ahhhs and "i wish he was in my boat"  

We soon picked up our gear and hopped in our jonboats as to get a spot before the tourney guys took em all.  Joe and I fished a little cove with jigs and had a double hook-up with some nice bass, but unfortunately, his swam under mine and the line snapped  >

but I landed mine  .  It went 4.5.

We fished the rest of the day with mostly jigs, occassionaly throwing a crank into feeding frenzies.  Joe kept gettin wrapped around logs by bass after bass, apparently they didn't like him that day....  But he ended up landin some quality fish.  I kept stickin nice jig fish on the shoreline goin 3 and 4 lbs.  One thrashed that looked over 8 or 9... but of course that is the one I would lose  :'(

Hudson and Shane had some lure malfunctions and were not doin too well, but they kept at it.  They caught a few small keepers on jigs and senkos.

Joe and I landed some more jig and crank fish (one of Joe's was an estimated 4 oz. bluegill  ) and decided to go in to the dock when the tournament guys were finishing up.  The best 5 fish limit that day had been just over 21 lbs.  I calculated mine from some notes I had been keeping on my weights and I went 23lbs. 12oz.!!!! Joe and I woulda won that thing!!!  I'm thinkin about entering the spring tourney they have....

Anyway it was an awesome day with some bigguns on jigs and Mattlures!

Fishing on that lake was awsome. kinda wish i hadnt lost 4 jigs on those bass though, i had to do some serious lure shopping after that. i definitely think that my brim was the catch of the day. ;D

lol how did u manage to lose 4 jigs  :

one was lost when we double hooked bass and mine ran under treys and broke off.  two were hooked fish but got wrapped up on trees.  and the fourth i just snagged
