13.9lb DRUM that is! Now you know how I felt. ;D

As you can see it crushed my Red Eye Shad. The lake my dad and I are pre fishing for a tourney is stocked with huge amounts of shad and it just ends up being feed for everything.

A 5 lb drum feels like you're hung up on a log.  This one must have felt like a house foundation.  Big fish of any species are a blast when they're at the end of your line!  congrats!

Caught a 10+ drum at a local club tourney once. Came to the way-in looking like a bassmaster sitting on the boat trailering up to the scale.

The word was that I had a 10+ in the well, took that puppy out just like the pros, held it up and boy did the club go ape$&!^..

Club dubbed me the Drum Master, and that name has stuck even after 12 years.

One thing we noticed was the live well never smelled the same (no matter how hard we cleaned it), those fish stink something awful...

Gave it to a local angler sitting on the dock, and he had plenty for his family after that...

wow good catch! caught two 7lbs on some fishbites bloodworms yesturday been slow with catching keepers down here =/ really good catch though! Gatta love the fight they put up

So you are saying that they stock shad in your lake?  Do baitfish not survive that well in the waters out there?

Gizzard shad survive just fine in large numbers but threadfin shad usually can't make it threw our winters. So our bass club in combination with the DNR and the Wildlife Refuge stock several thousand threadfin each spring and then they spawn several times. So then the lake ends up with just tons of them. I'm talking so many in the fall that I swear you could walk across the shallow coves on them. This is really nothing more then a supplemental feeding program, kind of like what some lakes due with trout. A decade or so ago it had a bad fish kill and this was one of the programs that was brought in to help get the lake back up to what it was. It's now producing allot of big fish for anglers. My dad and I could have easily weighed in 20lb stringers on two of our trips this week. Despite all this I still hate this lake!!! Your always fishing in 2ft of water and no I'm not kidding. So far our best pattern has been main lake banks with grass and rock that is next to deepER water. I'm talking a three to four feet drop is HUGE! We had to LOL one morning because we were basically sight fishing in the grass. The bass would literally be moving the grass and we would flip at them and catch them.

That's a super-cool bonus fish !  :-)

So answer me this; Would it be possible for a guy to go out and specifically target Drums ? I mean, would their be things... places, techniques, that one could do to make it probable that you would catch 1 or more per trip ?

I honestly have no idea. There viewed around here the way carp are and I was simply fishing a island with a roadbed. The area was stacked with fish. My dad had just caught a white bass a couple casts before the drum. I know some friends of mine who nailed s ton of drum at a power plant lake this winter with spinnerbaits.

Hey Simp, the first day we were at the Roadtrip Kentucky Lake I caught a big Drum on a jig in about 8 ft of water. On the hookset, I felt the power of the fish and said to myself..." This lake has some hoggs in it" then after it rolled up and turned at the boat I realized the kind of hogg I had on. It was exciting and depressing at the same time  ;D

My biggest is about 10lbs,  those suckers pull like a LM at first.  Then you get them up to the boat and they do a roll over and surrender thing.

I caught 6 drums the other day: Biggest one was 26 inch kick!

drums are a great battle, and take long bullish runs.

thats a nice fish!!!!

only drums ive ever caught are redfish, and i love the fight in them.
