New PB- Lake June, FL

Featured Replies

All I can say is FINALLY!!!

I've been trying to beat my PB for three years and I haven't exactly been on the fish lately, either. We went down to Lake Placid for a family event with Christine's family over the weekend. Saturday night I was fishing near sunset on the dock when a boat blew past me leaving a huge wake. I threw my Strike King Red Eye Shad anyway, because I only had that night to fish. I was jigging the bait up and down in the water column during the retrieve when the bait just STOPPED. I set the hook and immediately thought I had a catfish because the fish headed straight down and just tugged on the line.

She then came to the surface, shaking her head violently. I was concerned about her throwing the hook, so I eased off the drag a little bit. By this time another boat came by, but slowly. They watched me landing the fish and were hooting and hollering when I pulled her out of the water. I gave a big yell because I knew she was my personal best. I didn't have my scales and I don't really care what she weighed. She gave a great fight and I was happy to release her.

Here are the pics:

I wish this were a little more in focus, but I like it anyway:

Yes, I know how stupid I look in this picture, but I was overloaded with adrenaline.

Trying to get the treble out.

Finally, FishChris and others are always posting great pics of their releases, so I wanted to get one as well.

I know that there are alligators in the lake, but like with any lake here in Florida, you just get used to them and learn to watch for signs of their presence. A vast majority of the time they want nothing to do with people.

WTG and congratulations on that new PB   and even better since you were on a family outing as well.
