I've see a lot of people talking about swimbaits, can someone show me some swimbaits that would work in shallow florida lakes?

Links to BPS or cabellas would be great, so I can get an idea of what to look for

www.mattlures.com All of Matt's baits are great and I fish all of them but the hard bluegills are the one to have for shallow water. Mattlures is also a member here. If it catches in the grass you can often rip it free like a rattle trap. No link for it but there are three retailers that sell the bait. Another great gizzard imitation is Triton Mike's Bull Shad. I like to fish it fast over grass for reaction strikes. Mike is a member here and you can PM him for info. Only place to get a Bull Shad is Natures Tackle Box here in GA. The number there is 678-567-1211. I fish mostly shallow grass lakes and these are some of the ones the ones I fish most.

Over grass I would try Mattlures Bluegills, Berkley hollow bellies, 4in trutungsten shad, sebile magic swimmers, and Jackal Girons. Any topwaters would work 3 of the best are 3:16 wake jr, lunker punkers, and M.S. Slammers. 3:16 Mission Fish also work well down in the grass. Most swimbaits arent made for weedy lakes but you can fish over it with alot of lures.

I'm definitely not "Mr. Swimbait", but that might be an advantage

for someone just getting started. I'll suggest two that do not require

Question, you say no special equipment need for the baby bass, but those weigh 1.3oz. Would you throw those on say a Med Heavy jig rod?

The reason I ask is because I just ordered some swimbaits that weigh 7/8 ounce. (Spro BBZ 1/ slow sink) Would it be okay to throw this bait on a Medium heavy rod rated to 3/4 ounce???

Yes!

I initially fished it on my MBR844C, but now fish it exclusively on a St. Croix EC70MHF. Both are rated for up to 1 oz, but are not stressed by the weight of the Baby Bass. I will note that I "lob" these lures without snapping the tip or "flicking" the lure. Casting distance is awesome!

The Lunker Punker was recommended, just wondering what classifies this as a swimbait that makes it different from say spooks or sammys? Sorry to hijack your thread bu this has been driving me nuts

It is made by a swimbait company and the action is a little different. It has a gliding type action after it turns that is different than a spook or sammy. I don't really see it as a swimbait or walking bait. I call it a surface glider.

Also are there any smaller (<1 oz) swimbaits or is the point that the baits are bigger and thus produce bigger bass? (sorry if this is a dumb question or already been answered)

the idea of swimbaits is that big fish don't waste their time chasing after minnows, but rather eat the biggest thing they can get their mouth around.

In addition to the ones already mentioned I've caught a lot of fish on the River to Sea V joint wake minnow, this one runs about 1-2 below the surface.

The swim senko works good for me.

I thought the swim senko looked pretty good and probably easier to throw with the set up I have right now; MH rod with a real old shimano bantum 100.  Has anyone else used the swim senko with any success?
