I just found the "Luresaver Split-Rings" and curious if anybody here has used them, and if they recommened it or not.  Sounds like a dream being able to get your lure back from snags.  All the other lure retriever "poles" don't work from the bank. These Split-rings might

I have used them and not crazy about them.   You have to pull a certin way for them to release at their stated rating.   Plus they are expensive for what they are.

I've tried them but don't use them anymore. They work great but I've had fish pull the hooks off. That usually happens when they jump.

That's exactly what this split-ring isn't supposed to do eh??  :-/

Yeah. I was surprised at first because the drag was not clamped tight and the line and rod were within the recommended range.

Did it give away on an average size fish? I only catch at most 2-pounders so if it gave away on a 10 pounder I guess I won't have to worry  ;D

I would hate to have everything rated at 8lb test and have a state record 12 on.  I think I would hunt them down and do Baaaaaad things,lol.

Hmmm... Good observation...  BUt I don't wish weeds that much (Not much growing. Its BALD where I fish), and I get enough of them on my hooks when I do I'm sure I'm not fishing them right  ;D

I don't know if I'm willing to trade my slim chances of getting a big one to losing a couple of expensive lures every time I go out.... I'm going to smack my head every time I snag a lure for not putting those split-rings on, but I sure will smack my head for losing a fish of a lifetime due to these split-rings  :-[

Still haven't made up my mind. According to the review, it seems like the split-rings will stay on the lure and is reusable. THe original cost of them might be pretty hefty for some fancy split-rings, but I am sure saving a couple of LC or MB baits will even up things a bit  

They look pretty big compared to whatever split-rings are used in lures. Do you think they impair action? Change weight balance etc?

I was thinking of just giving them a shot, but figured that would eat up a lot of money with the shipping. I tried to find them in tackle shops over here, but I haven't found them yet.

Yes, they did. That's why I wont use them anymore. Sure...I got back a few baits and was more confident chucking into snag prone areas. But what's the point if you have no confidence once a fish is hooked up?

That's not good at all...

I'll just spend the money on more lures then!

Tell you what we use in our boat. It's a telescopic pole that you attach to your line. It can get down to 20' deep, simple to use & works great. It has saved many a Lucky Craft lure.

It seems to me that these split rings are NOT good for fisherman who fish for large bass.

The biggest bass i've cought was 5lbs. But when i get a 9lber on i dont want to have my split rings give out.

Also, they say you can use each split ring to save lures multiable times. It seems to me that this is a good reason for the "lure savers" to weaken, thus loosing fish.

I use them on all my high end cranks and I haven't lost a single fish because of the split rings. I have caught striper over 10lbs and a flat head cat over 15 both on 10 lb split rings. They are expensive but I think they are worth it

Hmmmm Now we have some positive comments about them.... I sure don't catch Bass larger than 5lbs so the "Losing big fish" doesn't matter to me at the moment. I'm more worried about losing them dang Crankbaits!!  ;D

Most of the crankbait snags I get happen when it wedges in rocks. The luresaver hasn't made any difference there. Maybe in wood cover it would help ? Also, why not get a lure retriever or retriever pole instead- they're only a little more than a few packs of those luresaver rings.

Thanks for the posts because I too had been considering "lure savers" but by nature I am skeptical :-? of most claims as hype preferring fellow fisherman reports. I now have purchased a lure retrieving pole, a lure retriever that slides down my line and even a saltwater proof heavy-duty magnet. I have lost more lures to the rocky shoreline than the subsurface snag. Often on Bull Shoals the shoreline is so steep or full of rocks that could damage your boat it is not always possible to just beach your boat and retrieve your wayward lure. I'm going to use the pole to move the rocks to free my lure. They are usually not very big but just have the lure trapped when while trying to land close to shore I land inland a ways. This usually happens when I use spinning reels, as I am still not as accurate as I should be. I still get me fingers all fumbled up every so often releasing the line as I should so I get a, at the feet SPASH, then you know it overcompensate and launch the next cast into the adjacent county. See you younger fishermen us old farts foul up lots of times too. Then I have to do a land search and retrieve mission for my lure most of the having to remain in my boat. Now I won't have to make the choice of break off find a spot to land then try to remember where the lure was.

As reported the Ultimate Lure Savers won't help if you hang the lip in rocks. But around wood or brushy cover they will save you a lot of baits.
