tritonman Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 If i'm correct, aren't the Flordia strain of Peacock bass called butterflys? Quote
boatless_tom Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 The peacocks in south florida are the butterfly. They dont get as big as the huge type you see in south america but they get plenty big and fight harder than largemouth. Sometime ago when peacock fishing got big in south florida, the local fishing write up talked about how a 1lb peacock and 1 lb largemouth tied tale to tale the peacock would ware out the largemouth in 3minutes. The hotter the water the better for peacocks, so you can wake up at noon and go catch them in summer. when its 90+ outside. They are more agressive than the largemouth, they chase prey instead of ambush. They'll take anything, but I hear thr floating baby rapala in bright colors worksreal well. The further south in south florida you go, the better and bigger peacocks get. Dade and broward counties are the best because theyre the warmest in the winter. The peacock cant take the temperature of winter time even as far south as palm beach. All the canals in south palm beach, broward, and dade counties have peacocks. Miami international airport has monster peacocks. Theres also a bigger canal down there I think C-14 off I-95 thats locally famous for peacocks. The miami homestead airport also ahs tons of peacocks, but i dont think they let you fish there. Any canal you can fish from the bank and catch fish. Work your lure fast. Quote
