Has anyone ever kept track of, or estimated, approximately how many casts you throw in a given time period with certain baits?

I ask because I "always" catch more while in my kayak than in my big boat on the same lake.  My thought is because I move slower/drive less, I cast more times.  Any thoughts??? :-/

Funny you should ask. Being on the river most every day gets you to be thinking about many things and on several occasions I have timed and counted casts. Durring a regular 8 hr day, I cast about 400 to 450 times in the day. The more I'm in the water, the more I catch.

This is only when the clients asks me to fish with them or I'm out with a buddy.

Now we are in trouble. That makes fishing sound like work.

I've never counted. Probably be too depressing to know how few fish I got per "x" number of casts.  :'(

I always count when Pre fishing for a tournament, or the tournament itself. It gives me an idea of how aggressive the fish are. On average I cast between 500 - 650 cast in an eight hour tournament. I fish rather fast usually try to find a strike zone that is about 10 - 20'  wide and fish only that. After I work that zone I burn the bait in and cast again. #1 thing I have found is the more you run around the lake the less casts you make which generally means less fish.

Fish catch to cast ratio is depressing in the winter...LOL ;D

I don't count casts, because fishing is for fun and you should just enjoy the gift of being on the water and maybe catching fish and spending a great day with your friends and/or loved ones. Sometimes when me and my friends fish, we count casts for about 5 minutes at the most just to see who can catch something first. If you're counting casts out of depression or wanting to prove someone wrong about the lake or just to simply depress yourself on not catching any fish, your not fishing, because you're not enjoying it at its fullest in my opinion.
