Can anyone tell me how to catch bigger fish?  Last year was my first year fishing club tournaments.  I didnt have a problem getting a limit but I did have a problem catching fish with some size.  Can anyone give me some tips or hints for catching those fish in the 2-4 pound range so I can throw back the fish in the 1-2 pound range.  Any info will be appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is to slow down some. Also, you can throw near some good looking cover with some plastics. Hope I helped any.

After you get a limit, start using Big Fish Baits.

Jigs and Giant Worms are awesome for kicker fish.

Natural Colors tend to catch bigger fish as well. Put the Hot pinks away

If you feel crazy throw a big top water bait when every one else quits.

Deeper water, bigger baits and a slower presentation. I'm not as comfortable as other guys with jigs, but I think everyone agrees, that's a big fish lure. For me it's 6" Senkos & Fat Ikas.

  think about this, the primary point on a cove on the main lake, theres a creek channel running in close to the bank,scattered rock and grass on the edge of the channel off of the point.  i would fish the inside line of the grass with a10 inch red shad worm by zoom rigged texas style in about 3to5 ft. of water. or maybe atrap and just tick the top of the grass. but be sure to hold on to your rod  tight.    got to run   catbird48

Put some monster bait (11" worm, 6" senko, 12" lizard etc..) on a carolina rig and chuck it out there.  Bring it back slowly.  Its simple and can hook you with some pigs.

Bigger Fish generally prefer slightly deeper water.  They also like a nice easy meal to fill them up.

I dont know the area you are in but I always have good luck catching the big boys by punching through the heavy mats on a lake or river. Use a one oz. weight  or bigger and rig it texas style with the plastic you like in your area. A stiff rod 7' or better with a good braided line 50 # test is what I use. When you lure goes through the mat hold on tight, when they hit it they hit it hard most of the time. If you dont get bit when it first goes through then Jig the baut up and down but keep your line tight. Then just cover every hole in the mat. I have caught a few over 10# this way, but most all of them have been 3 or more #.

Sorry about that ... I fish in Minnesota.  Biggest fish I have caught up here is a 5 Lb.  Thanks again for all of the tips!

I'm a firm believer in the bigger bait-bigger fish theory.You won't catch as many fish,but the size of the fish you do catch will more than make up for that discrepency.
