Do fish like the rain?

Recommended Posts

Well you won 't catch anything except a cold fishing in the middle of a downpour but there 's that kind of fine rain that barely riples the surface that can be very productive. It 's not really that the levels of oxygen increase or stuff like that, it 's what rain brings into the lake, first the levevels of light diminish greatly ( the fish will be shallower ), the baitfish activity increases because rain brings them food ( insects ) and they feel more comfortable, the temperature of the water drops a little bit on the first couple of feet, also, if the lake is built on montainous terrain the water drips allong the banks carrying with it more food in the form of washed insects, also that washed water brings silt increasing the tubidity and creating current. After a downpour, specially in montainous lakes, the water washes downhill violently and the feeder creeks become prime spots, baitfish move towards them looking for whatever the rain brought with it, baitfish move, bass move.

light rain very good on a summer day cools the surface a little and bring the big boys out of the deep.

I catch fish in the rain but if it's associated with lightning or even the threat, I'm outta there! I have been caught in a lightning storm several times and I don't like it at all, it's really dangerous, I mean life threatening. But if it's just rain, put on your rainsuit and fish...the fish are already wet!

I grew up fishin with my dad who also tournament fished.  So many days we loaded the boat with bass during and immediately after a rain.  (According to my dad), the rain brings the much needed extra oxygen and also cools the water.  This turns on the fish.

One of the best days I ever had was during an 8 hour steady downpour that pretty much caused constant use of the bilge pump!

Caught far too many bass to count on Superflukes over grass beds that day.

Still, I hate fishing in the rain.

I catch fish in the rain a lot. I was in a tournament ounce and about 15 miles away there was a tornado. It was hailing out and pooring. But we caught a crap load of fish.

Some of my biggest sacks of fish have come on rainy days and nights! Hard to beat a spinnerbait and a buzzbait in the rain.

The fish don't care, they are already wet!

Caught my biggest in a light rain as well.  As with most other things to do with nature it seems that the less comfortable WE are the more comfortable the game is. :-/

Light mist to intermittent sprinkels,  steam comeing off a warm water lake,  throwing top water  I love it when they explode on one in the fog.

Sloshy shoes, sticky dripping clothes and thunderboomers ....mamma I'm come'n home!
