Perhaps reeling them in too fast.

Depends on when you are fishing them, where you are fishing them, and how fast you are fishing them.

Most of the time, I fish them in the early mornings and late evenings, around visible shorline cover.  This rule only changes right after the spawn, and when fish move shallow in the fall.  I will, depending on the mood of the fish, fish them all day long.

I firmly believe that color is important.  If the water is clear, you might be using a buzzbait that is too bright for the conditions.  Most of the buzzbaits that I use are white/silver or greenish in color, especially in clear/lightly stained water.  Anything with more water color than that, I move up to a white/chartreuse or all chartreuse buzzbait.

It all depends on time of day and what season. I usually use buzzbaits during low-light hours or when the fish are active. As for the season fall is one of the best times to be throwing a buzzbait, especailly white and chart./white.

I normally fish buzzers around visible shallow cover, wood, grass, riprap, etc. But one of the most overlooked places to throw a buzzbait is around steep rock bluffs and walls.

Hope this helps.

For me, buzzbaits are pretty effective, but ONLY when it is very low light conditions.  For example, my best time for them is usually after sunset but before dark.

Buzzbaits always work for me and Raul probably hit it on the head make sure that you reel it so the blades just go above the water. It will put off a lot of splash and every once and a while i will pump the rod and it puts off a big splash that sometimes triggers picky bass.

What are you doing with them? How can someone know what you're doing wrong if they don't know what you're doing?  ???  ;)

I will repeat what most people said above.  Low light, early morning  & late evening is the best, but throw them other times too.  I fish a lake with a lot of boat docks, so in that hour or so of both periods I won't pass up a boat dock with out buzzing it, along with all the other areas mentioned above.  Vary the retrieve speed.  Also make repeated casts to the same area.  I will give you an example.  about a month ago I was fishing in the afternoon, sun was out bright, I was fishing a shady bank.   I noticed a brush pile about 1 ft in the water off the bank, I made over 10 casts over the top of that brush pile, finally I had a 2lber come out of the middle of it and explode on my buzz.  It goes back to confidence, I knew there had to be a bass laying in there, I wanted to catch one on the buzz bait so I kept at it.  I think I just made him mad enough to strike.  The more you use it the more confidence you will gain.

My buzzbait of choice is Hart's Hartbeater. I've had alot of luck with this buzzbait! Generally I will throw it during lower light conditions but I have caught both largemouth and smallmouth on this bait in the middle of the day even on bright cloudless days! Color can be a factor at times, I've been on my boat with my Dad and my uncle and all three of us were using Hartbeaters. I was using black (this was an evening event about an hour after sunset), Dad was using chartruse and my uncle was using white. I tore them up that evening almost 3 to 1 until they finally caught on! Cadence of your retreive can be another factor. Making the blade barely turning to burning it across the top to pumping the rod so the bait kinda pauses (like working a jerkbait) works well too! Experiment with color and retreive and let the bass tell you what they want! Hope this helps!
