First time out lures

Featured Replies

For us guys who are in the north and our lakes freeze, what lures and

baits do you plan on throwing you first time out?

For me its a suspending jerkbait, a jig, and a shakey head.

Planning on getting more serous this year so probably gonna throw a little of everything to try all the new stuff I got over the fall and winter.

A mattlures bluegill swimbait will probably be at the top of the list though followed by some topwater

For me here in Wisconsin, and mainly the Mississippi especially since I can get on it about a month earlier than the lakes due to statel laws I will always start with the following.

Hair Jig

Jig and Pork

Fluke

Senko

Suspending Jerkbait

Lipless Crank

Flat Crankbait (tight wiggle)

Finesse Worm

Spinnerbait (colorado/willow)

Those baits will always be on the deck early in the season with water temps 55 and under.

Steve

my first few trips are usually exclusively jerkbait

very sharp jerks and short pause is my trick

I assume you mean after iceout here in the northern states.  Jig and real pig frog, tube, jerkbait.

However, my first trip out will be in about 29 days on Toho in Florida, will be using a little different stuff there... :)

Another Wisconsin guy here; I already got the itch for open water.  First open water fishing will be the spring walleye run on the rivers. Gotta wait until May for bass.

First thing I throw will definately be suspending jerkbaits with long pauses.

Lipless cranks.

Lipless cranks and then

Suspending jerks

Soft 4.5" swimbait slowly retrieved if cold.

Redeye Shad if warming trend.

4" Senko either.

Small Musky bucktail if I get bored. :)

I like the way you think,

Red Rattle traps seem to killem on Racoon early on, along with a Rapala Shad rap.

lipless crankbaits and LC pointer or x-rap
