Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

I never fished jerkbaits to much was wondering whats the best type to use and what color for spring stained water thx

These are my favorite's by far. Pointers, Xcaliber Xt3 andXs4, and the X raps are my favorites. Below are some of my top colors. The X rap is the best buy IMO.

Orange bottom is a must with a jerkbait.

Make sure your retrieve is erratic with a stop and go action.

I like the suspending jerkbaits - the ones with the red eyes.

Any type or brand is acceptable.

SWING your rod to the left or right when setting the hook and then point rod tip towards or into the water to keep bass from jumping and throwing the bait.  ;)

I don't tend to throw alot of jerkbaits in stained water that much.

I catch a lot of smallies in stained water in the spring and fall, you just have to adjust your color patterns. I prefer fishing jerkbaits in as clear of water as possible but if you limit your jerkbait fishing to only clear water you're really missing out.

Anyone try the IMA Flit?

I have tried them, but haven't caught anything on them - yet. I bought my first one too late in the year to really get into fishing it. I have big expectations for them. They have an amazing action, absolutely spastic in the water. They stop really quick. Ima says they dive 6'-8', which seems about right from what I have seen.

Someone mentioned the Jackall Squad Minnow.  That's another great jerk.  I have caught a couple of fish on that.  It doesn't cast quite as well as the LC Pointer since it doesn't have any shifting weights.  But it has a better action, IMO.  And it stops instantly.   I only have two but I will get more.

Now here is a sleeper jerk, IMO. The Daiwa DB Minnow SP. It dives to about 3 feet. It's swings widely in the water. Suspends at about a 45 degree angle, and casts like a friggin' rocket. For under $10, you can't beat this jerk.

You could also consider a soft plastic jerkbait like the zoom super fluke, plus its weedless. ;D

Spro McStick - basically a shallow running version of an Ima Flit

Ima Flit - Flat out destroys fish

Micro,

I hate your post...I already have enough jerkbaits that have never

been used! Those you posted are BEAUTIFUL!

Here is a list of a few jerkbaits that work for me:

1- X-Rap size 08 or 10 in Glass Ghost, Clown, Hot Head, or Hot Pink.

2- Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow in Clown. Like the Daiwa DB Minnow, it swims widely. I killed the LMB in my canal last Spring with this bait.

3- Bomber Long A in Firetiger.
