have you thought of downsizing?

Featured Replies

anyone with a fiberglass bass boat and been fishing large bodies of water ever thought of just going back to ponds?? i have a couple of 100 acre ponds near me that looks alot better than dealing with all the tournaments and pleasure boaters on the large lakes.  i am thinking of a jon boat or maybe even a kayak and getting rid of the fiberglass boat

My wife and I got kayaks last year.  They are great ;D ;D We fish/paddle on small ponds and rivers.  We are recreational paddlers  :o NO WHITE WATER :o  Fast moving water up to class 1 is OK.  I still go on Champlain in the boat but the kayaks get a lot of the fishing time. ;D

I fish 100-200 acre conservation lakes all the time but I still wouldn't downsize.

Ponds are my favorite

Fished out of a Kayak for my first time last year. I was going to replace my Belly Boat with it. Good thing I tried it before I bought. I hated the Kayak. Whenever the wind kicked up a little bit, I was moved out of position. Also, When moving from spot to spot, I can troll with the Belly Boat. Not so with the Kayak. In the Belly Boat, both hands are on the rod while you padlle with you feet. In a kayak, you have to paddle with your hands. Hence, every time you get a hit, You have to drop the paddle and pick up the rod. Hence, fish off.

Look into the top end of Belly Boats/U Boats before buying a kayak. I think you'll be a lot happier in the long run. You'll even save some money.  ;D

When I had access to smaller waters, with good fishing, I rarely was out fighting the crowds... I was lucky though, the best 2 small lakes (80 & 90 acres) I ever fished had ramps and I was able to use my fiberglass boat.

With permission and a 4wd truck, most bass boats can be launched w/o a ramp.

I fish mainly state lakes that range from 100-1000 acres.Even the smallest have launch ramps that'll take any size bassboat.I also fish a few small lakes on Camp Shelby military reservation. The ramps are dirt, but I've had no problems getting in.I have a canoe if needed.

Between our farm ponds, a few other freinds ponds, and the smaller local lakes ( bout the biggest I fish is 700 acers) I rarely go to any big waters. I have a small 8' bass raider boat and I can launch it by hand any where I go.

Belly boats?  are those the tube thingies ?  Maybe a link?

I have a Pontoon with Oars and 8.5 ft inflatable pontoons...I enjoy fishing out of it sometimes, if its not to windy and i want to travel light....I use a 13 ft squareback gheenoe on most ponds and small lakes....Then I have a 18ft Polarcraft  heavy duty aluminum bass boat for everything else...
