Hook retriever idea

Featured Replies

I was talking with someone the other day and the conversation went to fishing. I mentioned something about losing a lure and he suggested that I get a key ring and tie it onto a separate rod. Then put the key ring on the snagged line. Begin walking around the lake until you are facing the direction you were pulling the lure. When you pull on the rod it should pull the lure loose.

Obviously, this would be a great help for bank fisherman that are snagged to far out to use a lure retriever or send their rod in after it.

Has this already been thought of or is it a new idea? I haven't heard of anyone doing this but I don't want to take credit for someone else's idea.

I would think you would be able to put it on the same way as you would put keys on it but maybe a snap swivel would be better.

I have heard of using a spark plug to knock off the snagged lure. I have never tried it but it seems like it would work.

I just always remember to keep a midget scuba diver in my trunk, or if small enough, my tackle box.

Save youself the time and energy.  go to bass pro online and buy a lure retriever for $8, it will pay for itself and then some.  It works.

I have one of BPS' lure retrievers and used it several times this weekend. I saved two deep diving cranks and a chatterbait. More than paid for itself in just that one outing! Well worth the price IMO!

BPS lure retriever for $8.

Don't spend a lot of time trying to re-invent the wheel...This dog hunts!

Telescopic lure retrievers work well for people that don 't own a boat, only problems are: that you are limited to the length of the pole, that you have to carry the gadget around.

Me too. I am going to try it next time i get an old spark plug. it sounds like it would work.
