fishing flooded timbers?

Featured Replies

Well i tried out a new lake this past weekend and it is full of flooded timbers and im needing some advice on how to fish these. the water is clear to about a foot down. i dont kno what the temp or depth is because the fuse for my depth finders was blown and didnt have any spares ( i know its a stupid mistake). So anyways if i could get some kind of advice on how to fish these it would be very helpful. thanks i appreciate it!

My lake is the same way. I've been having great luck with weightless flukes and senkos. Cast to or near the timbers and let it sink all the way to the bottom then I work the bait slow. The fish at my lake have been presured pretty hard and the only way I can get them to bite is to fish slow. By slow I mean sllloooowwww. But it has been a great way to curve my impatient ways :)

Look for a group of trees, or trees intersecting. Use jigs and texas rigged worms, heavy line, and a stout rod and throw right in hte middle of the brush.

Well get your depth finder working and see also if you can find any kind deep water near or through any of the flooded timber, those would be hot spots especially now that it is getting hot

Try throwing a square-billed(less hangups than a rounded bill) crankbait and bounce it off of the wood.

I have had quit abit of success in pitching/casting a fat Ika near isolated trees.  Find the one or two trees that are seperate from the big clump of trees and cast the Ika in and just let it fall, and hang on.

I'll usually run a crankbait into the wood as hard as I can.

If the bite slows down I'll run back thru with a spinnerbait.

I agree with lightning rod...

I would explore with a crank...bouncing off the timers...at a few different depths...

I vote banging spinnerbaits or balsa crankbaits with wood bills off the wood. Be sure to pause and let it appear to recover from the banging, then resume the retrieve. Balsa baits back off nicely removing hooks from a possible fouling and rise quickly, and spinnerbait blades stop momentarily as the quick fall begins. Strikes come most on the recovery moment or when the lure takes off again.
