You going to hang that toad on the wall ;) ;D?

Had the same thing happen with a fluke one time-it was bigger than the fish, and I didn't even set the hook-the fluke just got wedged in the fish's mouth.

I don't know why little bass hit stuff that big. Bass are agressive from the minute they are born. I have some bluegill that I keep in a fish tank. They are about 7" long. I caught a 3.5" bass on my fly rod one day and put him in the aquarium. He hid out in the corner for about a day and a half. Then everyday at feeding time he would charge the bluegill that were twice as big as him; and steal their worms. Sometimes he would even try to bite the bluegill. Eventually, the bluegill started hiding in the corner and their tales and fins were taking on a tattered apearence from the bass constantly biting them. Once the bluegill stopped eating, I put the bass back in the pond. After that the bluegill acted fine.

I was once trolling a 9" Swimbait, when it felt like it picked up some grass or something. So I reeled it in to find out that an 8" bass had apparently aimed right for the big ol' 2/0 treble, and managed to get one of the three points right through is lip :-)

If that fish doesn't get himself killed, it is certainly destined to become a big ol' California trout eater !  :-)

Pretty funny how agressive those little ones can be sometimes !

Peace,

Fish

LBH you may be right on the bass. There are probably other things that could go wrong besides it terrorizing the bluegill. Those bluegill that I have are thriving. You wouldn't believe all of the worms, minnows, and crickets those things can put away. I'm going to have a couple of record bluegill in no time. They even eat out of my hand.

I've had bass in fish tanls for several years when I was younger. Pretty fun fish to have actually. Mine even ate turkey scraps I would toss in the tank.
