Need advice on a small pond

Featured Replies

I've been fishing this pond for the past 2 months roughly. I've been using 3 and 4" senkos and have been catching alot of bass, both large and small ones and alot of them. Anyway, the past week maybe, I've noticed the bite has slowed down quite a bit. I also noticed the carp are in the shallows as well, I think they may be spawning or something. Could they have an effect on the bass behavior to bite? I was thinking it too may be the bass are done spawning maybe???? Anyone have any advice? How long will the bass stay in the shallows anyway? This is my first year really concenttrating on plastics and I've tore them up so far.

I fish small ponds a lot, depending on how often you are fishing and how "small" the pond is, they could be getting too used to the bait you are using. The spawn works entirely off the temp, so different time for different parts of the country. I think moving to deeper (relative term for small ponds) water is a temp thing too...

I was thinking the same thing. I've tried everything nothing seems to be working. I fish it once a week, I'm the only one fishing it.

Switch baits/lures. I dont know how long a fish's memory is, but I know its not very long. Ive had alot of luck with a medium sized topwater torpedo. Works really well on small ponds. Good luck!

Try spinnerbaits in white or chartreuse. I also have good luck on PowerBait tubes when the fish slow down. Dawn and dusk I go buzzbait. I live in Michigan, waters about high sixties now.
