clear water?

Featured Replies

good evening,

i was wondering out loud ;D, can water be to clear? i fish a hot water lake(power plant) 85degrees plus, in east texas and the water looks like tap water....plenty of grass and stumps, old trees and lay downs, however, when i put on my polarized glasses, i can see 15-20 ft. down and 30ft. plus side ways. i been missing a few fish and there are small fish everywhere around my boat. i talked to a guy today and he said go to 8# floro.....

i fish mostly plastics...

any suggestions would be welcome...

good catching,

You might want to try downsizing your lures aswell and go with a natural color.  I have found that this works real well on clear water situations for me.

i would agree.  i would downsize, natural colors, and fluoro in 6 or 8lb test.

Lake Geneva in Southern Wisconsin is gin clear also.  I use 8# test line for 2 reasons, 1, it is harder for the fish to see and 2, it allows you to cast a lot further.  I seem to get more bites within the first jig or 2 when using a sinking worm.  On days when I seem to do better, I do a lot of fast fishing, but look into the water constantly.  I go back and fish slower in areas where I saw a lot of fish the first time through.

When I want to fish lakes with extremely clear water I simply fish on cloudy overcast days or at night.  ;)

Most of my fishing is done on the lower ends of lakes.  I go there to avoid the crowds as most guys around here like to run the rivers.

The lower ends are very clear.  I don't even think about it I just fish.  Down sizing to me is using a 3" trailer on a 1/2 oz jig.  I use 10-14 # mono.  The last time I fished with a guy who was downsizing he had 1 keeper and some dinks while my big baits and heavier line produced 9 keepers.  I think the clear water thing is mostly mental.

the clearer the watr the bigger challenge.

They are still bass.

bad news is they see you farther away, and see the lure clearer to detect a phoney.

Good news, is that they can see the lure from farther away and be attracted to investigate.
