Hey guys.

I just started fishing about 2 weeks ago, and to my suprise, I've had good success.  I've been probably 5 times, and I've caught 7 bass total ... not great ... but not bad for a beginner.

I just have some questions about general pole set up.  

When would I want to use a dobber (floater etc.) and when would I not want to use one?  Same with sinkers/weights ... what difference does the size of it make?

I've been reading through the forums and I got some ideas on good bait to buy.  I just bought some spinner bait, jig-n-pig set-ups, and some senkos.

Any kind of info would be appreciated.  Thanks guys!!!  This seems like a great place.

    A Great Place to Start is http://bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html. This will be a good place to get relative information on how to get started in Bass Fishing. I would stay away from using a bobber unless your crappie fishing. For bass, start with using senko's texas rigged. You can either swim this bait in shallow water (no weight), use a south carolina set-up, or stick it on a shaky head. Football jig heads will work also. Once you can flip this bait with ease and not hang up on anything change to spinnerbaits, buzz baits, other plastics (fat ikas, sweet beavers, tubes, etc), and crankbaits.

    The size of the float you use is relevant to the weight of the bait you are using.  No need for a big one if there is a nightcrawler on the other end, however, if it's an XL shiner you are using, you want one big enough where your bait can't pull it under.
