Aggressive bass

After reading a reply in another thread, I have a question. Raul says that he'd throw a topwater bait first to catch the most aggressive bass.....

BUT

If there are in fact more aggressive bass in a school....wouldnt they hit pretty much whatever you threw as long as it looked good, you know, since they are more aggressive?

Just something to think about.

certainly makes sense....but as the saying goes "if it aint broke, dont fix it" ;)

I think that would depend on where you find aggressive bass.

If you were fishing on top, then you'd probably do well to stay on top.

If you find aggressive bass while fishing on the bottom, then continue to mop them up.

Looking for aggressive bass is a different story.

If the whereabouts of active fish is not known, I like to begin in shallow water using an aggressive delivery.

This way I'll find out real quick if they're active in the shallows, and won't miss out on a possible gravy train.

But if I begin finesse fishing in deep water then find out 4 hours later that bass are aggressive in shallow water,

then I probably lost 4 hours of prime fishing time >:(

By the same token if I begin top fishing in shallow water then find out 4 hours later that bass were aggressive in deep water, then I undoubtedly lost 4 hours of prime fishing time. At the same time one must consider what is meant when you use the term shallow; it is a well know fact that I prefer fishing main (deep) lake structure and on the main lake shallow water could be 8-12 foot. When most people refer to shallow water they are usually referring to bank shallow out to maybe 10 foot.

When looking far aggressive bass I prefer to look offshore since these bass live in deeper water on average and they are less affected by weather conditions thereby being more aggressive overall then their bank shallow cousins.

So what would be your answer to the original question?

Just because a bass is aggressive does not mean they will hit any lure you throw, sometimes they are in the mood for top water lures, some times they are in the mood for bottom bouncing lures, & some times they are in the mood for mid-depth lures.
