Undersize fish MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY.

We can 't choose which laws and regulations we are going to obey, if the law or regulation say you should keep no fish under X size all those fish you catch under that size must be released immediately, if the law says you can 't posses more than X number of fish then once you have your limit all fish must be released.

There you are with a livewell full of undersize fish, the warden comes and catches you what are you going to say ? "excuse me officer I 'm keeping them in the livewell so they don 't riun the spot when I release them", what you think the warden is going to do ?

It has been said that you keep a male that is caught off the nest, as to allow the female to come in and lay her eggs,  and laws govern legal sizes.

I asked the Proffessor if Bass emit a phermone that I have read in other articles that warns other fish in the school when released, does it warn the school.    His reply was no.     So other than spawn situations, there doesn't appear to be an explanable reason for doing this.

If any thing, keeping the bass in the livewell is more stressfull than a quick release.

To answer the question, if you break the law then yes, but there are alot of lakes in texas called Slot lakes that make it legal to keep undersized fish.....ie....Lake Fork has a 16-24 inch slot limit.

You may keep 5 fish under 16 inches and  or only one over 24 inches, 5 total for the day but only one over fish.

So on Fork, you shouldn't get busted.

The idea that a released bass goes off and comunicates some sort of danger or stress to other bass is absurd. I have sat on numerous occasions and caught well over a hundred fish from the same spot and released them as fast as I caught them.

I have read in other articles that warns other fish in the school when released, does it warn the school.

The book Lunker! sites a study that found released fish that are bleeding give off a warning to other bass and will shut down a feeding school.

That's why many people have caught the same fish again within minutes of their being released. I have seen the same fish caught several times in the same day. I have watched 5 boats fishing in the same hole catch fish on just about every cast all day long and every fish was released immediately. Yes, some of those bass were bleeding. As I said previously, the idea that bass communicate some sort of stress or warning of danger to other bass is just plain un-founded.

Many articles about bass were written to fill space, not present facts.

However, that being said, if you wish to think that putting bass back on the other side of the boat, or keeping them in a livewell will enhance your fishing day, then go for it.

There was nothing in the article that said keep illegal fish.

There are certain things that can rightfully be taken for granted.  Not breaking the law is one of them

It is a tendency for bass to school with similarly sized fish.

If one wants to nit pick every word in every article looking for apparent errors, than one will be missing out on a wealth of valuable information.

what you did was worse.  You INVENTED a statement that was not made and sarcastically "set up" the members for your clever punch line.

Your a newby.  43 posts.   Do us a favor. Get to know the level of respect and sincerity that BassResource.com is famous for before attacking.  If not then kindly take your smartasscrap somewhere else.

Way to go there ol' sour puss, you're a big influence with the young ones around here.

You talk but, I've been around a little longer than that.

How did you get all that from my post? If you did your PARANOID

Whats next besides newbies?, you don't like poor people? Race? Women? Church? Young people, short people.

Sorry I didn't fit in with your KIND.

Wait a minute I'm correct here!

This site welcomes new fisherman and I've seen Glenn point out to newbies where to start, and if a new one to fishen read

"But don't put caught fish back in the water. Instead, put them in the livewell if you want to catch more fish."

They'd probably follow along, lets see read that again

"But don't put caught fish back in the water."

And I'm causing trouble? Being banned is better than talking with a hypocrite ;)

Your Buddism isn't working for you ;D

I don't know who wrote that article but I like George have sat on underwater structure and caught dozens of bass with out moving my boat an inch. I've done this hundreds of time some there is no way it was an isolated incidence.

This was the first time hearing this for me.

Last week I read lots on fishing (being I was on a fishing camping vacation with the family) Read the "Lake Light" in Grand Rivers KY, Catch of the Week by:Tim Dillion, even picked up a silly United coast Guard Fishing tips by Bill Dance and had to read Bass info on the Bass resource because the forum was DOWN, so I really couldn't remember where I read about  holding the fish after catchng them?

If I INVENTED a statement that was not made and sarcastically "set up" the members for your clever punch line. Then I'm wasting my talents.

Heck maybe I should run for Office if I'm that good ;D

i gotta say i didnt see anything about small bass or illegal bass or nothin like that so im not sure what your seeing. you do know you can keep legal fish in a livewell right?

but on the other hand i dont see where post count has anything to do with this. the guy apparantly made an error,  jumping down his throat accusing him of wrongful doing is no better than what your doing to him. since when did post count account for elite status. cause i can think of a few members here with high post counts that just fool around or say the same post over and over.

im not saying ones right or wrong but we need to just buck up and stand together. if someone crosses your line let them know without attacking them.

thank you for pointing out that my approach to this yong mans post was counter productive.

I apologize to the members and to FishinBuds for adding fuel to the fire.

I admit to overreacting.

I do feel very connected to BassResource.com and view it as "family".  But it is my sincere wish to enhance the site, not inflame it.

Once again, my sincere apologies for the aggressive tone.

Thank Ya,

And yes I'm very aware of legal size, as for the post since it can't be discussed properly  I will delete it after a few more views to show other members how adults should handle a situation gone bad :(
