coloring is usually determined by the fish's environment. At a tourney we will wiegh in fish of several different colors and tints. from light colored, washed out looking fish to deep dark greens and blacks...depends on where on the lake the fish came from.

Floridas and Northerns are what you will hear of most.

Florida strains are the big boys you hear of down south and out west (CA and TX)

oh ok...

well all the bass at this pond have been stocked

could that be a factor in the coloring?

you've got northern strain, and florida strain bass. northerns are aggressive, floridas grow big, so now they've crossed the two, to make an "F1 bass" that's what we have in our pond.. very strong and very big. ;D

what kind is the one i have in the picture??

because i have never ever seen bass with that kind of coloring. (except in the pond i was fishing in)

hey buddy that coloring is perfectly normal. alot of my fish are that colored. i find that fish change color to adapt to their environment. i'll bet that fish came out of a pond w/ alot of thick hyrdilla weeds or similar...am i correct? i find that if im fishing in cold, deep, or murky waters, the fish are washed out in color and are just a solid silvery pale green. if im fishing in normal conditions, well the fish look normal, if im fishing in weedy conditions, the fish adapt to sorta match the color of the weeds. if its thick bushy hydrilla, they are usually that yellowish color. i've also caught fish out of weeds that were so rich in color they almost looked black!

oh i see.

the pond is covered with weed or hydrilla. (i dont know my plants  ;) lol)

i just dropped a worm straight down to an opening at the bass just slammed on it.

The one in your pic seems to be a northern strain. The one in the pic is also a northern strain but almost black.
