fishing in the heat

Featured Replies

I have found a place I can fish during my lunch break. Its 98 f here with a index of 115. I have heard the from older people that there is no point in fishing in this weather. What are the experiences you all have. I know if I don't go nothing can be gained, but is it worth my time?

And have some extra deodorant at your desk so you can freshen up and not chase your coworkers away... ;)

Most of my best largemouth bass have been caught on the hottest, bluebird days of summer between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. I suggest soft plastics and  recently, Mattlures Baby Bass.

Ditto what all these guys said and you can never go wrong with a stick worm rigged weightless on about 2/0 ewg hook to let it sink nice and slow around and in pads. Good luck. Let us know what ya did and if it worked or didn't.

I have been fishing during my lunch hour for several years now.  :)

What I have seen around here is that the smaller bass hit topwater well around the weeds, but that slows down about now.

The bigger bass tend to go a little deeper, but they are there and bite well.

My main problem is... This place is weed CHOKED!!! It makes it darned near impossible to get to those bigger fish.

Tried it, but I didn't have any luck. I am seeing fish move in the water, but no hits whatso ever. I am starting to see that its not so much the fish, but the fisherman that have a problem with it. 30 min in 115 was about all I could stand. I am thinking I will try some top water tomorrow. I just want to have some success with my challenge and plastics. The pond is pretty clear in the middle with some rocky bottom, and a crap load of thick weeds along the edges. No pads and a few stumps on the end thats hard to get to.

We have been hitting close to 100 degrees down here in florida for a few weeks now.

I been hitting the computer, the couch, and the TV.

do a little bank fishin in the evening if it's not too bad, but even at night it feels like your fishing under a wet soggy blanket.

gotta remember I can fish 12 months a year.  No need to suffer.

When y'all are shoveling snow, I'm casting to prespawn bass in sweatshirt.

But August??????...............fuggedaboudit.

I have to shovel snow like once every blue moon here in NC, I would love the 80 degree floridian winters, but you can have that 200% humidity

What RW said--for me too!  I caught 6 or 7 Bass day before yesterday when the water temp was 93 degrees.  Hooked a big one too but she got off and other Bass were chasing bait fish in the shallows.  And this is from one of those "old fellas" ;).

A Bass's metabolism is energized by warm/hot water.  They will be where the water is oxygenated and that means shallow for the most part.  Earlier last week, I caught two 4's, three 3s, and several smaller Bass.  All were in 2-4' of water and all took a weightless Swimming Senko.  It was near 100 degrees air temp that day.

I appreciate all of you guys just backing up my thoughts, I am not real confident with anything yet, and I am still getting skunked a lot but I am trying to apply the techniques that I have read and been told. I guess its just a matter of time. My toughest feat now is just my concentration level.

I too have had some great days on thw water in miserable heat. The bass don't know you're sweating your tail off.

A couple of reminders. Take and drink plenty of water, not beer or soda. I keep a couple of hand towels stuffed in the cooler with the ice. When it gets really hot, take one of the towels out, wring out most of the water, and wrap it around your neck. It will cool the blood flowing through the arteries running up your neck, and will cool you off. I keep two of them in the cooler so I can swap them out. I'll aslo thow a few ice cubes in my hat, then put it back on. Feels good in the mid-day heat.

Cheers,

GK

Past three weeks here in Ky I've been picking my battles and it has been fiercely hot. When I have hit the water it has been after 5:oo till dark. When I have been able to catch fishits been in the shade. with heat index at 105 it is hard to be dedicated. Well at least when its this hot I can learn more through the forum.
