Road Trip?

Featured Replies

I am sick of winter and snow and considering getting in my truck and heading south.  I am not wanting to drive 12 hours anywhere but was curious if there were 'warm' places where I could fish open water and camp in southern Missourri, Oklahoma, those kind of areas.  I am in south central Iowa so that kind of limits me but I have cabin fever bad.  Ice fishing just is not cutting it and I have some new toys I need to try out.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Too far away and not soon enough, I had a feeling you would be suggesting that ;)

Fork!

All of the lakes in N.E Oklahoma are ice free, but the water temps are in the low 40's and the bite is tough.

Fork!

If Guntersville is too far away from Iowa, certainly Fork is out of the question.  ::)

My thoughts exactly!  Keep the suggestions coming.  Some power plant lakes would be a good start as I do not have a big water boat.

No Fork?

Lake Eygpt in Illinois is a power plant lake. I heard that there was a good bite during the winter there. There's a couple guys on here that fish it.

I've heard the jerkbait bite is getting good on Ky. Lake. Soon as the 35 mph wind lays down, I'm gonna go see.

Good Luck, CJ

Try La cygne lake in eastern KS about 1 hour south of KC.

General Comments

For up to date road and ramp conditions call 913-757-6633. The fishing is warming up as the air temperatures drop off. The marina reports that anglers are catching quite a few crappie in the 10-13 inch range off the dam/outlel gate on black/white jigs. Some larger wipers between 6-12 pounds have been caught in the hot water area. Boaters use caution, recent rains have washed in logs that are floating at or beneath the surface. Anglers when fishing at the hot water outlet,or at the outlet gate at the dam, DO NOT GO OVER THE CABLES. FISHING IN A RESTRICTED AREA COULD GET YOU ARRESTED.

Russ,

You are soooo helpful!  I may actually have to go walleye fishing so I can cast a regular rod.  :-X
