SOFT LANDING

Featured Replies

i heard that using a side cast will reduce the amount of splash created when a bait hits the water (KVD) i have gotten the side cast down but i am still havin some trouble droppin my jig in the water quietly from over 20ft. any tips????

There are a few solutions such as feathering the spool, pitching the jig, or using a smaller wieght on your jig.  Use whatever works best for you

Hope this helps  ;D

yea hudson try to learn to pitching and fliping it will be helpful in quiet approaches

Question is:When you say side cast are you using a roll cast technique?

This, by nature, also allows your bait to travel at a lower trajectory, along with getting a "smart thumb" to feather the cast.

I dont use jigs much but I use this technique when trying to cast a bait farther than I can pitch it using heavily weighted soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and large topwaters such as a super spook.

Whats a roll cast? Try the search, or I or someone else can answer you back.

Pitching is the best answer and can be mastered with a little practice. Although a quiet entry is sometimes important, a big splash attracts fish in many situations. When making long casts, a soft landing is usually not important.

You can make a quiet entry by pitching, roll, sidearm or overhand casting if you stop the bait as it reaches the target... the only splash will result in the drop into the water... the lower the trajectory of your cast, the softer the landing if you stop it, regardless of the type of cast.

Remember, accuracy will beat stealth 95% of the time, so don't get too caught up in it. (yes, that's a made up %)

95% of statistics are made up on the spot.  ;D :P

If the spot isn't within flippin/pitchin range, I figure stealth aint necessary. Maybe I'm missing fish though  :-?

alright thanks for advice i guess it makes sense for it not to matter considering that most strikes occur on the fall
