bass

Featured Replies

I am fixing to dig a pool on my property and i was going to stock it with bass.  I was wondering if i should put something on the bottom of the pool for the fish to bed in.  If so what do you recommend.

Thanks

Joshua

Welcome to the BR Forums - the BEST bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. Sorry I can't answer your question but some of the other BR members most likely will be able to. IF I dug a pool on my property, I'd fill it with BABES, not bass:o)

Welcome aboard!

I suggest doing a lot of research and talking with you DNR guys before starting the project.

Ahh, popeye, you are soo funny!! Welcome aboard. The people here are great and like popeye said, it is the BEST bass fishing forum on the web! The links that BUCKEYEone posted are great.

Building a bass pond, eh? First things, first. Habitat, habitat, habitat...you need to provide habitat not only for the bass, but also for the food chain which supports them. Cover between 10-25% of the pond bottom with fish attractions. Baitfish such as bluegill prefer dense structure and cover. Brush is good, living submerged aquatic plants are good. Bass prefer "fluffy" cover that they can move in and around. As goes the habitat, so goes what lives in it. Habitat is defined as what a creature needs to be able to reproduce, feed, hide, congregate and loaf. Provide those key ingredients and you are well on your way to a good bass lake.

Never heard of a bass pool. I take it you can't dig a pond in your area? I guess it's no different than me using new baits in the bath tub to check out the action before I actually use them on a lake. My wife just loves it when I do that. NOT. Good luck
