positioning on sunny days

Featured Replies

Which do y'all prefer when the sun is out?

Fish with the sun at your back or the sun in your face?Which is better and why? Thanks in advance.

I never give it a thought since I'm usually fishing deep structure or at night  ;)

Gotta go in your face and there's a good reason. The shadow will be cast at your back, away from the structure you're looking at. It's easy for the fish to see you in a shadow, or they may even spook just because of a shadow.

It's really nothing I ever take into account. I'm gonna fish whatever I am looking for regardless where my shadows are falling. I don't sight fish either. I guess if I had a choice the sun would be to my back so it wasn't in my eyes.

The only time I'm concerned with the position of the sun

is when I'm looking for submergent weed beds

or when I'm spying for bass on a shallow flat (drive-by).

During the night, I don't care which direction the sun is shining :P

X2, trying to watch your line while looking into the sun is a PITA.  That and this time of the year I am fishing the sun hit shallows so inherently the sun is at my back.

I agree with the sun in your face to keep from spooking fish. You can always wear sunglasses.

I guess if I was shallow I would want it in my face to keep the shadows down, but I am usually fishing deeper water and I would not think it would really matter.
