Yesterday I took the family to Toro Creek for some rafting & a little fishing (me); well wouldn't you know the first bass I stuck was a fat little 3# chunk. I looked down its throat and dang it the hook is all the way down in its gullet. I reach for my de-hooker D'oh! You dummy it's in the truck, ah yea Glenn's post on deep hooker fish comes to mind. So I reach down pushing the hook to the side, reach between the gills pulling slightly down on the shank, back down the throat grabbing the curve of the hook and out it pops. Ended up having to do it three times and it worked like a charm every time Merci Beau Coup.

Thanks RoadWarrior, I'm on it!

great info!  I recently had a small mouth completely swallow a 4'' tube and was very frustrated I couldnt get it out.  I really dont like letting fish die to hooks and I hope i can use this technique in the future to prevent it from happening again. thanks glenn!  8-)

Today I had to go through the gills and cut the barb end off the hook and pull the shank through the gills of the LMB I caught after cutting the line.

No blood.  No damage.  He swam away happy.

I have done this before by going through the gills.  It is something we all need to learn to do.

Only problem was that I forgot to take the Senko out of his mouth.  I hope he enjoyed it.

This is a technique that we all need to learn.

Thanks Glenn.

I have been useing this method since I read that post and it works wonders, plus I get my hook back more :)
