Favorite Stained Water Lures!

Featured Replies

I'm about to start fishing a river that's pretty stained. I'm used to fishing clear so thats what most of my lures are for is clear water. Do I need to change anything up? I know for spinnerbaits I should look for gold or painted colorado/willow blades. Any colors of plastics or cranks I should try and have? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question to some but I'm just excited to get out and fish some where new and would like some advice on what to use! Thanks in advance!

For plastics good colors for stained water are:

Green Pumpkin and Junebug

You might want to pick up some shallow running cranks like bandits, bagelys, or the original Big O (not the plastic version).  Good colors include: Chartruese w/ a Black Back, Red Craw, Firetiger.

Also don't forget about jigs.  A 3/8 to 1/2oz jig in Black/Blue w/ a Blue trailer is dynamite in stained to muddy water.

Good Luck!

try lures that move a lot of water. like a 1/2 jig with a big trailer case plastic makes a good one. also a black neon tube. wiggle wart crankbait in black/chart or red craw. Big spinnerbaits with chart blades or gold blades big willow leaf baldes or indain blades mann's hank parker classic spinnerbait is a great stained water bait. its has a gold indiana blade and small colarado blade with a lite wire is has a lot of vibration.

Big bladed spinnerbaits, a crankbait with a wide wobble, and larger plastics and jigs with rattles in them.

Green pumpkin, Green Pumpkin Red, Green pumpkin chartreuse, all are starters. Also spinners with big blades.

A nice and big, juicy, tender 10" Powerworm in black or blue, fished extra slow, with a 1/8 ounce bullet weight, T-rigged, with a large fry on the side.

Yum .

When the water gets really murky I like to use a black and blue chatterbait with a black gycb kreature as a trailer.  Its bulky, easy to see, and puts off a loud thump.  Any bass nearby can find it with ease.

A slow-rolling retrieve seems to work best, moving it just fast enough to keep the blade thumping.

Some good info guys.

Thanks, ;)

Since visibility is an issue use slightly larger plastics than usual. Add a rattle and use dark colors(junebug, redshad, black/blue). Work them slow and make repeated casts. Try a firetiger or white/chart Rat-L-Trap as well. And don't forget to take a black/blue jig with a baby brush hog trailer(deadly). Best of luck!!!!!!!

For heavy stained to muddy water I use dark colored plastics and jigs with rattles.  For crankbaits I use dark or bright colors with a rattling bait.  For spinnerbaits I agree with what has already been posted but I would emphasize that I prefer large colorado blades over large willow leafs or indiana blades.  Use lures that the fish will notice.
