Soft body swimbaits

Featured Replies

I want to expand my arsenal to include soft body swim baits this year. I'm looking for sugestions on brands and sizes and also what type and size hooks to use. Fishing northern largemouths, mostly in woody resivors. I appreciate all your feedback.

   Thanks

I have had luck with the Luck E Strike swimbaits, they were not very durable, im sure there are better ones out there.  However, no matter which ones you use, if you are looking for a more enticing wobble attach a split ring to eye of the hook. This will greatly improve the action. Good Luck!

Can't go wrong with 3:16 soft baits.  Mighty Minnow and Mission Fish are great weedless baits for your woody reserviors.  Price is pretty good as well

I'm trying out my first swimbait and I went with Mattlures Ultimate Blugill (Male). Sure it's a little pricey but man that looks so realistic in the water.  :)

a great starter is the mattlures baby bass but there are a ton of choices out there and a mission fish won't get hung up as much

x2 on mattlures baby bass and the mission fish. both are excellent quality. you get what you pay for!

I have had great luck with both the Lucky Strike Bass Magic and Strike King Shadalicious (Same exact bait.) I use the 4.5" and either a weighted or unweighted 5/0 or 6/0 ewg hook. I don't use the screw in hooks as they tend to tear up the nose pretty quick. I've found they last pretty good and a tube of superglue never hurts.

I use H2O hollow body soft swimbaits. They are the cheapest and are pretty durable. They have a pretty hard nose and I use the screw in hooks. Haven't had any issues this far with the nose getting torn up. I can catch over 10 fish per bait on them.

On these soft swim baits or paddle tail swimbaits, what kind of line are you fishing them on? Mono or fluro.? :-?

I like the Strike King and the Luck E Strike 4.5 and 5.5 inch baits

As far as the hooks go, I just recently stocked up on Luck E Strike belly weighted hooks with the screw on the eyelet.

There seem to be several brands offering weighted swimbait books, but the Luck E Strike we're SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper.  And so far, so good :)
