How do you keep bass from wriggling around after you caught it.

Featured Replies

The other day I was fishing and I caught a nice bass that I wanted to take a picture with. As I was holding the bass by the mouth it shook around and fell unto the dirt where it got all dirty and the picture sucked with a dirty bass. How do you put a "bass to sleep" for a quick picture?

first off, you hold it better so it doesn't fall. just wait for it to settle down and take the picture.

Hold it by it's lower lip and just wait for it to stop wiggling around

I know how to hold the bass but the bass goes ape on me randomly. I guess I just need to use a death grip on the bass's jaw.

I prefer to shoot them with a .410 when they jump.  Saves any chance of getting slime on my carpet.

that's what they do... they don't like to get hooked in the mouth, dragged around, and then get held up by their lip. wouldn't you try to get away too? just hold on a lil tighter. you're doing more damage by dropping the fish than by holding it more securely.

First don't hold it by the lower jaw with a thumb inside it's mouth, it will damage the jaw hinge.

Hold it like the smallie posted earlier, for the picture.

To clam the bass hold it upside down, belly up, they tend to stop moving. Don't keep the bass out of water any longer than 30 to 45 seconds, unless you plan to keep it.

A couple pile drivers to the carpet normally subdues most wrigglies,  the persistant ones that just don't know when to quit get a sleeper hold put on them until they're docile as a lamb.  They always beg for a bath in Please Release Me when I'm done with them.

Go down to florida, catch an aligator gar- practice hold those by the jaw, then the bass won't seem so hard.

That works for trout too.  They are slippery devils, and when they are over 10, can be a lot to handle.

Just remember to turn it back over for the hero shot, LOL.

(my buddy Kase getting silly after about 20 of these fish one day)
