What's your favorite deep water technique?

Featured Replies

"Deep" is a relative term I know, but on the particular body of water I'm talking about, 12-15 feet is "deep."

I catch a fish every 10 minutes flipping the banks on this lake but never get my 4-10 pounder there.  Only 1 and 2 and 3 pounders.  I feel like the true hogs are in deeper water, so I want to attack that water hard.

There's not a ton of structure in this lake, but theres some wood and rip rap on the bottom in some parts.  What I can tell from the few times I've thrown a deep diving crank bait in there, is that the bottom seems to be more rocky or pebbly than anything else but I honestly cant tell.  No ridges, or humps or any other structure like I said nor is there much vegetation to work with.

So you're fishing 15 feet of water in this lake. What's you're go to bait/technique?

Dropshot?  Deep Cranks?  Jigs?  Slowroll a spinnerbait?  Slowroll a Swimbait?  Other?

bobber fishing...reel upside down :)

There is an area of my local lake exactly like what you described.  I think that a heavy jig is the way to go for deep gravely or rocky banks.  (like 3/4 to 1 ounce).

i would throw a crank to find some fish, then probe with a tube.topwater is fun if the fish are active.

I would throw a spinnerbait with a big colorado blade

In that situation I would approach it T-rig 10.5" worm as that is 95% of the fishing that I do. As you stated with the rocky bottom as well as rip-rap you might be able to drop shot creature baits in hope to catch some small mouth, maybe throw a jig and pig combo. Also if I could steer clear of the "wood", I would possibly throw Lucky Craft DDR 2.5 as well.

Deep crank (Jackall Muscle Deep 15+)

Big worm (10" Anaconda)

Football jig (KnuckleDownLures, Knuckle Dragger)

....no bites with those? Load the boat and head to the house.

Thats way to general bro.  Can you tell me what are the best bobbers to use and how to throw them?

Also, I'm confused.  Is the reel supposed to be upside down?  Or am i supposed to reel regularly, while I'M upside down?  If it's the latter, how do you not get a headache?  Do I take pain meds before i go?  What works best?  Advil?  If so, how many and how often?

If you're going to make a post, and try to answer a good question, at least be specific please so I know what's really up!

What hooks do you reccomend with the 10'' worm?

Tx rig or Crig a 10" or bigger worm. I catch more on this. But I like to try deep cranks(I totally suck at them).
