I think they will bite whether they are wearing any or not. ;D

Most bass Fake N Bake.... or was it Shake N Bake. I lost count.

I think one of the guys on the forum actually sprayed off directly on his bait and had the same catch rates. I wouldn't got squirting a tube of it on your spinning rod unless it has a soft complexion as well. :)

i fish most all the time in just a pair of baggies (boardshorts, trunks, whatever you all call them) and sandals....... Its FL, and i grew up on the beach, so thats just how i do it........BUT, subsequently .... i always have on sunscreen, usually spf 50+ .....

now i do my best to keep it off of my gear/lures/etc......

but inevitably it does get on my hands and then lures.....then line....blah blah blah.....

you get the picture.....

does it ever affect my fishing.....

nope...

i dont think it matters at all,

i catch plenty of fish....

just my thoughts on the matter at hand.

Not if you can feel a bite quick enough! Dont let the fish hold it too long because it will taste it imo. Or just use a quality scent!

It absolutely does for me!

If I don't put any on in the summer, I rapidly get burned to the point that I can't get anywhere near my boat to go fishing for a week. I also tend to get this weird buzzing-like noise in my ears sounds something like: "I told you to wear sunscreen!! What are you retarded?? Don't come home all burned and whine at me about being burned...". Repeats over and over and over...LOL  :D

IMHO, The thing that will have the most profound effect on fish biting your baits.....SKIN CANCER!! :-? Use the sunscreen ::)

I was the one that did the Coppertone sunscreen test. I used the Sport lotion in 50 spf applied directly to plastic worms. It worked just as well and several "attractants" and definately did not repel bass. For most of the bass caught when using it, they would swallow the worm and swim off.

"Not if you can feel a bite quick enough! Dont let the fish hold it too long because it will taste it imo." does not apply. Actually just the opposite occurs in that you need to set the hook quickly to keep them from swallowing it.

I was about to ask the same question about the sunscreen. I absolutely have to wear it so I was hoping for this answer, haha!

What about bug spray? It seems like that would have way more of an effect than sunscreen would.

In the summer in Florida we gob the stuff on.

Some days we catch a whole lotta fish,  some days we don't

In spite of wearing a heavy application of sunscreen on my face, arms and hands,

a bluefish chomped my fingers down to the bone, causing a bloodbath

Does that count?

If you're worried about it spray some garlic scent on your bait - that will cover up anything!. It works for my uncle.

I put sun screen on before leaving the house and always wash my hands after applying sun screen when touching up exposed shin areas during the day.

I also wash my hands after handling attractants, not because of odors, don't want anything slippery on the hands that could cause a major problem; casting the rod overboard, loosing control of the steering, getting on the glasses or sonar screen, etc.
