how to use an live minnow with out a bobber

Featured Replies

i find bobber fishing really boring. so i hook a minnow through the lips, cast him out, and retive so slowly the minnow fights the hook. every time i do this a bass hits. last sunday i did this and the second the minnow hit the water a bass hit it. i reeled him in, put on a new minnow and again the bigger bass hit it the second it hit the water. this method works and is really fun. it also works on pike crappiesand smallmouths

I might just have to try this!

This is something I am very interested in. I take my wife and daughter fishing a lot and am always looking for ways to fish minnows besides sitting in one place with a bobber. I have never really thought of tossing it out and slowly reeling it in. I am interested in the three way rig I hear roadwarrior talk about. Any way I cant wait to see what this thread brings.

I use a split shot rig with a minnow in saltwater for Flounder; I might have to use this rig and a minnow for Bass too.

Same here. Ticking the split shot off the bottom.

Back in the day we used a 3 way swivel with live minnows, not unlike a chicken rig or drop shot rig, while drifting.

Just yesterday morning on my way home I stopped by a canal and met a guy fishing with live minnows( bobber) telling me he was catching many bass in the 5+range there, best I was mustering was a 10" dink on an xrap.

You can also pitch a live minnow from your boat as you run a bank.  Pitch it close to the structure you're fishing, reel it back, pitch again.
