I remember watching him and his son fishing in lake Taneycomo for big rainbow trout and his other show's for bass and other fish1 I also remember the word's to his song ;) From the lake's of northern canada to the gulf of mexico, wherever fish are bitin' that's where we're gonna go, there's a lot of exciting country just waiting to be explored, join us now in the great outdoor's, world of virgil ward 8-) Now does'nt this bring back some memorie's to those who remember his show. junebugman

Virgil Ward and Harold Ensley were pioneers in outdoor sports television.  Harold Ensley did a quail hunting show on my grandfather's farm with my Dad and Grandfather once.  Took time out to fish the farm pond for a while, too.

Chimin' in here.  As a kid I could wait for Virgil Ward to come on, I was suprised to here Gary Klein bring up his name in Glenn's interview.  Every so often there is a thread running on everyone's favorites and I am usually the only one to sing Virgil Ward.

Those were the days  8-)

You guys kill me. ;D  I'm only 43 but in my neck of the woods we were always 10 years or better behind the more developed parts of the country.  It was said that my great-grandmother had the first tv around and was the talk of the terrritory.

Yep, sure do, and Gadabout Gaddis (The Flying Fisherman) also.

Me too.....and fishing was so simple back then.

Yep, had 3 channels, all in black and white.

In northern wisconsin we had 1 channel when we got it to come in. ;D ;D

Hell yes!!! I remember watching it sitting at the kitchen table with Grandpa...Saturday after the evening news.

THis has brought back a flood of happy memories.. the excitement of the rare opportunit of a fishing show to come on..I was on the edge of my seat watching and would break out my rod and clean it up and dream of going fishing.

My favorite show was The American Sportsman.  It had people like Grits Gresham and Curt Gowdy along with some celebrity outdoorsmen like Bing Crosby and Phil Harris.
