Question regarding fish jumping ???

Featured Replies

What other species of fish might jump out of the water besides bass????

I have seen several bass bust the surface, but today out of the corner of my eye I saw a fish nearly come out of the water, and it looked like it had a pink belly?

I know the lake has bass, carp, crappie, catfish, saugeye, and bluegill in it.

Carp tend to jump alott.

Fish jump out of water because they are trying to avoid predator, or trying to feed. I have seem all kinds of fish jumped out.

It was probably a carp.

probably a carp if it jumped out of the water but crappie and shad bust the surface as well

Carp do it a lot and so will other fish who are being chased by a predator.

i've seen a whole lot of gizzard shad clear the water at a local lake just as night is falling. when we would be driving out boat back to the ramp we'd scare them and they'd jump all around out boat. pretty fun.

Minnows and carp plus baby bass.  :)

if it was a bigger fish probably a carp

Carp do it all the time, just.....cuz.  I'll be the first to admit that I don't know why they do it, but I doubt they're being "chased" that much.  Seems more like a breaching thing like whales do.

Man, I remember when I first fished a lake full of carp.  I kept thinking I was seeing all these huge bass everywhere!  LOL!!!  ;D :D

The ones in our lake sound like a shotgun going off when they smack back down on the surface. Scares the you know what outta me before daylight....and I'm expecting it, haha.

Carp are setting up there nests right now. They are very active jumping and rolling on the surface. There nests are in weedy areas and they are patting down all the weeds for there nests. That's as much as I know about carp. It sure does make your head turn on a calm day though.

they are carp for sure. I saw several of them again today, and got a close look at one about 3 feet away. It was a carp and it scared the crap out of me as well.

Thanks to all who chimed in.
