Brackish Bass... can they get big?

Featured Replies

I have a lake a few miles from my house that is river fed and drains directly into the gulf. I've caught 2-3 pound bass in there but do brackish bass typically get any bigger? Just curious. This lake sees ALOT less bass fisherman than our big freshwater lake. The lake averages 8-9 ft but has some pockets 15-20 ft deep. I want to join the 10lb club and currently drive 45 -50 minutes to get to the other lake. Is it possible / likely one could be lurking in the salty brown water just down the street??? ::) ;D

There is plenty of brackish water in South Louisiana with double digit bass  ;)

Catt... excellent answer. I'll give it heck next saturday.

If no bass, at least I can go to the other end and fill the freezer with seatrout. ;D

I fish the Peace River in s.w. fl.. I catch bass into the high single digits regularly about 3 miles from what is considered salt. I know there are bigger there. I think your chances at getting a 10+ are better there where less pressure is being put on the fish.

I have caught some very large bass in brackish canals in SE Florida.  Not targeting bass but they are there, imo you have to fish the tide in those areas, I like high outgoing.
