what works in warmer weather

Featured Replies

i was wondering if certain baits work better in the warmer months and the best types of places to fish for large mouth once the heat sets in ? i am also catching a lot of 1 pound or less lately and tips tricks for bigger bass or places in central va

thanks all help is greatly appreciated

It would appear that every question that could ever be asked is now covered in some article or previous post - sort of cuts down on the value of the forum doesn't it.

In response to pspbass - I have learned that one of the best techniques this time of year is to fish submerged brush piles with a T-rigged speed craw, worm or a jig.  This is tough fishing but can yield some awsome results.

Most people I see do nothing but beat the banks... and the bigger fish will not be on the banks in warmer weather most of the time.  You have to fish a little deeper, so try working around some deeper structure.  Never, ever will even one of my top 10 fish of the summer come from the shoreline.  Yet, that's where majority of anglers spend the most time for some reason.

I'd say don't go fishing till like 7pm.  After that it gets little cooler and better chance for bites, especially with slow moving baits.

Topwater in low light, cooler times of day

Go deep during the day with crankbaits, C-rigs, jigs, plastics.

I catch the most and largest baas in the summer during the mid-day hours just like any other time of year. Just the depth is somewhat different than cooler periods.

About the only seasonal presentation change I do relates to speed.

Find some grass mats over deep water.  Drop a t-rig with a 3/4 to 1 ounce weight through the grass and go down to the bottom.
