i was fishing the lily pads yesterday with a spro frog when something hit it hard on top of a pad. of course i thought it was a bass and reeled it in. when it close enough to see it was the biggest bullfrog i'd ever seen, scared the  heck out of me, i had no idea how to get a hook out of a frog but luckily when i went to grab the frog it let go and jumped away. has anyone else ever had the same experience?

I've had it happen quite a few times.  Bullfrogs must be pretty territorial, it seems like they'll come after anything that isn't bigger than they are if you throw it in their general direction. 

I've probably caught nearly a dozen the last couple of years. They can't stand topwater frog baits.

I have caught thousands of them.  Sure are tasty.

sometimes when the bass arent biting, i tie on a frog, cast it across the pads, and look out! So yes, i catch them alot.

I catch a lot of them. You can put just about anything in front of their face and they will nail it. Wish bass were that way.

It's a fun way to harvest frogs for their yummy legs.

Ive had a few close calls but never hooked one. I had a water moccasin hit a hula popper in my pond when i was a kid though.

I've caught a few this year, but not too many. I saw one on the banks of a local pond so I dangled a #4 Mepps spinner in his face he jumped up grabbed it and used his hands to feed it into his fat face. I've never seen anything like it.  ;D

I got a 6 foot gator to hit my spro frog and got it to the boat to but had to cut the line

That's probably what I'd have done... don't think I'd have wanted that guy in the boat with me. 

Yes, I've caught a couple monster frogs on Spro's and Scumfrogs.  They will viciously attack them and take them under!

...i just gig 'em.

When I was about 8 or 9 I caught one that was roughly the size of a cat with its legs out on a rubber worm

The frogs where I fish the most hit frog lures, any soft plastic on top of vegetation and even shallow swimbaits.

The frogs are big and hard to get unhooked.

yes i have caught a bullfrog before ive caught alot of them what i do is cast a bait over there and reel it right past it and it will hit it and i would just let it set and then jerk.

One time, when my boys were young, I took them fishin' at a local pond.

Well I hook into this huge bullfrog on my Rebel Pop'r and my kids got all freaked out. I told them I had to reel 'em in to unhook him, no big deal right.

I go to unhook the frog and honest to goodness, he let's out this guttural squeal, that sets my kids to  start crying and running away. I took to laughin' and that made my two even more upset.

Whew! The long and short of it is, I threw the darn frog back... needless to say that was the end of fishin' with Dad for awhile.

Eventually they went fishing, only if I promised to never catch anymore frogs.

My gf was fishing with a baby brush hog and she saw a frog just sitting in the water. I couldn't see it so she used the bait to point out where the frog was and he jumped almost a feet up and ate the brush hog, LOL... I was like "gl with that", but I guess the frog wasn't hooked, just had half the bait in it's throat and let go.

I'm not sure they are bull frogs but at this lake I squirrel hunt at I catch like 20  them an hour.
