My  experience with wacky rigs has been as follows. I catch most bass pitching a weightless wacky rigged trick worm or senko. 90% of the fish  I catch on it hit it on the initial pitch and fall.  I catch better quality fish on the wacky rig than other techniques. I am wondering if this is the case with other fishermen. And do you have other ideas on wacky rigging you would like to share? Specifically other baits you wacky rig and ways you fish it deeper than I can since I almost exclusively pitch it weightless.

Try sticking a small piece of nail weight in one end or a rattle.  Makes it fall just a little off center and provides a little different look.  I can't say I catch my bigger fish on a wacky rig, but I have caught a good number of 'em

Use some of the weighted wacky jigheads to get deeper.  As for catching bigger fish I haven't fished Senkos a lot.  I just have got more confidence in other baits.

I find that the original Wacky Rig catches smaller bass with a higher percentage of these gut hooked so I seldom use it.  

I use a wacky rigged finesse or Trick worm for about 80% of my catches. All the bass over 9# I have caught have been with a weedless wacky rigged finesse worm. No only does it produce big bass, it produces lots of bass. Everywhere I have fished, the wacky rig has been the most successful presentation. I use the worms unweighted for depths less than 5', lightly weighted with a size 3d steel finishing nail for depths to 10', and weighted with a Lunker City nail for depths deeper than 10' and so far as deep as 30'. Rarely do I use any other baits when wacky rigging as Trick or finesse worms work so well, there is no need to use anything else. I cast, skip, pitch, and flip them.

Wayne, what kind of hooks do you use for wacky rigging?  I'm planning on fishing wacky style for the first time this weekend on Anna.

drmnbig, I use a 2/0 Gammy Octopus hook or 2/0 Owner Mosquito hook for the finesse worm and a 3/0 Gammy Octopus hook for the Trick worm. Rig them weedless. A very good presentation at Anna especially around docks and rip rap.

One of my 'go to' baits.  I have caught hundreds of bass on these baits and have never had a gut hook.  My PB came this way.

I use a 2/0 gamma weedless finesse hook.  Works well for me.

Some people like fishing finesse baits, I prefer to finesse fishing power baits but I have caught a 7 # on a Wacky Rig; All my double digit bass were caught on a Texas Rig or Jig-N-Craw.

The only time I use a Wacky Rig is when I want my grand kids to catch something  

I fish wacky rigged Senkos - unweighted - in depths up to 40' with no problem. They sink pretty fast. If you want FASTER sinking, I'd go with a hard bait, like a rattletrap or blade. Senkos are best left weightless.

I've never had one gut hooked either; I use circle hooks.

Had my first experience wacky rigging last weekend.  Had been hearing a lot about it over the past few years and finally decided to give it a shot.  I wacky rigged a weightless 5" Kinami flash worm and absolutely slayed them.  Using a spinning rod, I skipped them way up under docks and pulled out some monsters.

Now that I've got the hang of it, I have fallen in love with the skipping technique.  I could place that wacky worm way up under docks into areas that never get fished because they are unreachable using other techniques.  Very effective and I can't wait to go back and do it again.

I use a weedless 2/0.

Never had any problems with gut hooking the fish or hook sets.

I throw into any cover or structure I can find.

Of course I lose worms and hooks due to getting them entangled in the cover or structure, but it is worth it.

If you want, you can place the hook 3/4 or closer towards the head and to the side to give the Senko a different fall.  

Speaking of giving it a different look.The Yamamoto 6.5 inch kut tail is absolutely deadly wacky rigged.Put a small nail in the head also sometimes.Twitch it once and you'll see what I mean.

wacky works almost all the time.  i use a weedless 2/0 Gammy.  can throw it anywhere.

funny story(at least to me) took my son fishing about 4 years ago.  he had picked out some worms that he liked the color of.  i let him do his own thing down the bank from me.  all the sudden he had a nice 3lb bass hooked!  i helped him get the hook out and then watched him hook the worm.......he did it right in the middle....wacky style!!  all on his own.      before i had ever heard of it!!  i made fun of him at the time.  we laugh about it now.

I fish trick worms and senkos wacky style and weightless.  I also purchased some baits that look like a trickworm with a 2 inch piece of plastic sticking out of the middle of it (like a T).  A 3/0 gammy fits perfectly into the bait and you have a perfect wacky rigged worm and can still use a decent hook.  I can't remember the name of the worms and it is flooding outside right now so I will have to leave you in the dark.  Sorry.

Believe it or not, I pulled a 2.5 lb LMB a few weeks back with a wacky rigged 2" Senko on a # 6 Owner Mosquito hook. Was playing around for crappie and got him.
