You guys use a snap swivel for cranks?

Featured Replies

do you guys use snap swivels for cranks and other baits ? i bought a pack of size 14's (the smallest they had) for easy changing cranks. do you guys use them and if not why?

ive been known to use norman speed clips. i dont use them much any more but i never lost a fish using them.

A swivel is not really necessary with cranks.  They rock  from side to side but shouldn't really roll.  I use a snap alone with most baits for two reasons:  Quick-change capabilities and because cranks should typically not be tied with a clinched down knot.  Use a Rapala knot or some other knot that leaves a small loop.  I use a duo-lock snap which gives the same effect.

I use snaps, but do not use ones with a swivel.

And don't buy them solely bases upon size.  You have to be aware of what the pound rating is on the swivels too.  If you're weakest link becomes the snap then you're going to have a lot of "failures".

I feel a snap swivel is overkill on the hardware dept however I do use a snap and I have never lost a fish due to using one.

Snap swivels were never meant to attach you bait - they are for attaching weight to your line, before the leader.

I use Duo-Locs for cranks.

gotcha.. thanks guys... i have used them years ago with no issues but the size 14 maybe too small. i will look for those snap locks.
